one of the candidates, likely Romney, will have enough delegates to clinch the nomination by April or May. That’s plenty of time before the convention in late August for Republican leaders and their flock to determine that nobody really likes Romney and there is no possible way that he can beat President Obama. They will go looking for someone else,

Unless someone changes the rules, which would signal open warfare, delegates are required to cast their vote for the designated candidate on the first ballot.

That would be it. Ballgame.

It is mathematically possible that Mitt and Newt could be so close in delegates that the balance of power would be held by Santorum and Paul. In that case we would have a brokered convention, as the first ballot would not yield a majority.

I’m afraid women do not like Sarah Palin, so she is unelectable.

Ridiculous. Romney is winning, fair and square.

About the only person he mentions as a possibility whom I could support is Sarah Palin.

But I simply cannot imagine that a brokered convention of Republican hacks would choose her.

I think the only way she could enter the race is with a new Second Party supported by the Tea Party, assuming that the GOP convention will probably come up with the worst possible candidate.

Maybe I’m wrong, but the GOP seems to be getting more and more and more resolute about committing suicide, if it possibly can.

I do think it’s true that almost anything could happen this time around, because the Republican hacks are being exceptionally stupid this time—even worse than they have in almost every election over the past several decades—and the base simply will not put up with it again. Not with our country on the edge of destruction.

Well, we’ll see. Meantime, keep praying for a good outcome.

At a brokered convention, Palin would come in just after Joe Lieberman with the rank and file and the elites of the party. The Powers That Be have been ripping her for four years, they aren’t going to pick her now.

Like most conservatives, I'm satisfied with Newt although unsure he can beat the establishment groups that have allied to force Mitt on us. Like most conservatives, I also dream of someone much better, and I know who that would be. But I live in the world of reality; I'm not going to get sidetracked on a dream. Three words:

She's not running!

Not gonna happen... the estabs have a plan to not get the indies too wound up against them so they have a chance to hold onto the House and maybe eke out a majority in the Senate.

They`ve written off victory in the Presidential “race,” thus Romney.

Anyone who thinks a liberal New Yawka is going to swoop in and delight conservatives for the nomination has lost their ever loving mind.

Sarah Palin might be able to pull it off, but that would be assuming that Santorum or Paul could grab enough delegates and Newt win enough states to deny Romney the delegates needed to win outright.

That is a very big ‘IF’.

I don’t think it’s going to happen.

The media would destroy Palin the moment after the nomination and Obama would stomp Palin to pieces in the general. We'd better look elsewhere if it comes down to “someone else”. Trouble is, there really isn't time to vet someone if it comes down to a brokered convention. That is a real concern, because almost everyone has skeletons in their closets, and, for Republicans, they sure have a way of coming out.

Here is my fantasy: Sarah gets picked for the vp slot. By some miracle, obama loses the election. The GOP president for whatever reason immediately resigns and Sarah becomes president and saves us all.

I would vote for Newt or Palim & wouldn’t hold my nose again like I did for Dole & McCain & vote for Romney or Christie. It seems the National Republic Party never learns that we want a conservative & not a moderate Democrat. I’m tired of them, the media & the Democrat Party telling us who we need to have in the finals.

Giuliani is another possibility.

Another Northerner with many problems that once conservatives find out about would not win the flyover country showing the stupidity of this article even if I did like the fantasy about Palin.

For once it would be nice if pundits actually took the time to look at the Republican base and see what wins historically...it is not a northern liberal Republican.

This election there is going to be a smart 3rd party that is tired of sitting on the sidelines dreaming of being in the big leagues...one that does look at our history and is smart enough to give the base what it wants if people do not get a clue quick.

Thanks for this thread.

HEY! MARK BERMAN! YEAH YOU! Get off your lazy butt and get out to walk and talk to us!

We see nothing but a puff piece to satisfy your editor’s deadline for a what-if, maybe, -maybe-not, fishing article. Well, we aren’t nibbling at your rusty hook, as we are a-fixin’, to commence, to begin the mightiest voter tax revolt since before FDR got Polio!

Your “possibilities” in your article are RINO re-treads. The rip-roaring Primary Campaign that is so confusing to you in the media is simply our way to convert the Grand Olde Party into the lean, mean fighting machine that will lead us out of THE VALLEY OF DEBT.

BTW, bring a thermos of coffee with you when you come to visit us here in fly over Country, as it will take a while to explain it to you. Just to get you started here’s a little poem from yours truly:

Ode to the Grand Olde Party, and their BFF, the Obamanator.

When Newt, Santorum or Paul rocks the GOP Establishment Boat,
The GOP Oarsmen pull knives from their boots.
The hacking and slashing puts extreme fighting to shame,
Never, no NEVER rock the GOP Establishment Boat!
The GOP cannot win elections, by choice of their suits,
A RINO Nominee is a Democrat, - - - - one and the same.

Two Party as One Party is what they adore.
“Never give voters a choice,” ( or politicians
Are out of life-time jobs, - - forever more).

As we pay our bills holding our noses as we vote,
The Obamanator holds his cold, steel knife
To America’s throat - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - .

Mitch Daniels is warming up. Gave the response to the state of the union. If there is a brokered convention, it is possible that some other candidate such as Mitch could win the 2cnd round voting, I suppose. Especially if all the candidates are so angry with each other about negative ads that each one refused to vote for the other.

Am I missing something.

The MSM is against Newt.

Yet as of today Realclearpolitics.com still has Newt over Mitt 29 to 28.

Now I understand why Newt is optimistic and upbeat.

Lets not panic!
