CLEVELAND, Mo. -- Sarah Palin, Senate kingmaker, is at it again.
Riding a four-endorsement winning streak in Republican Senate primaries this year, the former Alaska governor swept into a blueberry patch outside Kansas City this weekend looking to apply her Midas touch to the latest fortunate recipient. This time it's Sarah Steelman, a former state treasurer running in a fractured Missouri Tuesday primary to decide who gets to take on vulnerable Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill in November.
With Steelman, Palin is making perhaps her boldest bet yet. Steelman -- who, like Palin, likes to hunt, staunchly opposes abortion rights and touts herself as a maverick -- has been running third against businessman John Brunner, who's poured millions of his personal fortune into the race, and six-term Rep. Todd Akin.
At least that was the case before Palin's arrival and the ensuing glut of media exposure for Steelman.
"They fear her," Palin told a few hundred people gathered at a sprawling farm a few miles from the Kansas border Friday night. "She's the candidate in this race who scares them because she won't go to Washington to just go along, to get along. You have that choice to choose, results over rhetoric. Convictions over consultants and Missouri over Washington."
A win would only enhance Palin's reputation as the most powerful down-ballot force in Republican politics...

I don't think mitt is more liberal than obie, but he's more competent as a liberal executive. This is a real problem. Right now our guys will barely stand up to obie. What will they do when they have mitt in there? The whole idea that somehow the Stepford voters are going to "hold his feet to the fire" would be laughable exept that, now, instead of having to suffer a wimpy liberal for 4 years, we'll have a backstabbing RINO pushing abortions and gun control for 8 and nobody will stop him because he has a meaningless (R) after his name.
Yeah...I know... Romney will pick more liberal judges than Obama would.... blah, blah, blah..
Recognition and acknowledgment of the problem are the first steps to kicking the RINO habit.
Romney has decades of being a businessman and a short time as a liberal governor.
We don’t need a businessman, (what to speak of liberal R), we need a gutsy fighter who fights against corruption even if (ESPECIALLY IF) it wears an “R” pin, and holds the principles of the Constitution. Let business take care of itself.
Palin never ran a billion dollar equity capital firm, but she sure has run a family business. If you want to talk about how 'well rounded' her experience is compared to Romney's, I'd say that she beats him there, too.
Not only did she sign the front of paychecks for a long time, she and her husband honestly built an enterprise which exchanged valuable goods and services with their community, from the ground up. Romney? Not so much.
His enterprise bought and sold businesses that others put their hearts and souls in to build. He and his partners never started from scratch to build something that would one day employ others, and actually create wealth. No, they purchased all that sweat equity in the marketplace, then turned around and profited by re-selling that sweat equity to other traders.
I'm not putting Romney down for engaging in that sort of business, but it's a very different animal than the type of business the Palins built. I happen to admire and appreciate the small business model a lot more than the Wall Street trader model. I think that sort of experience prepares one a lot better to be a representative of the people, than the aloof and distant experience of buying and selling businesses.
Would I vote for Palin over Romney ?...every single day of the week.
On this, we agree. I, too, wish that she'd run this time, and think that it's a travesty of immense proportions that we're now stuck with one of the worst candidates in the field. The stars were perfectly aligned for a no-nonsense, patriotic conservative to become the next president. Even someone who was marginally conservative would have wiped the floor with Obama. Instead, we wound up with a candidate whose record in office is a sterling example of left-liberal governance.
I can't help but think that this outcome was purposely engineered by forces that have hijacked and stolen our government and the reins of power from the American people. This is not what we wanted. It's precisely counter to the natural direction and will of the people.
