Holy cow: Not even 40 votes in the Senate for the assault-weapons ban, says Reid

Amazing. I predicted once or twice in writing about the AWB that there might not be 50 votes but I felt silly about it afterwards. Of course there’d be 50 votes. The bill was doomed to be filibustered given the GOP’s solid opposition plus the skittishness of red-state Dems like Mark Pryor, Mark Begich, and Mary Landrieu, but Reid would be able to muster 50 if only because Senate Democrats would want to avoid humiliating Obama after his big gun-control campaign. That way, even when the bill failed on the cloture vote, O could still claim that it had majority support in the Senate. That’s key for his 2014 messaging against the GOP: The more stuff he can lay at the feet of Republicans, the better Democrats’ chances are.

Instead, this. Wow:

“Dianne has worked so hard on this,” Reid said, referring to the ban’s sponsor, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). “She understands going back to the day she found the mayor dead in his office. I know that, but right now her amendment, using the most optimistic numbers, has less than 40 votes. That’s not 60. I have to get something on the floor so we can have votes on that issue and the other issues.”

You know what the most amazing part is? That Reid would actually float this incredibly lame number instead of just saying “we didn’t have the votes” and leaving it at that. Is he … trying to humiliate Obama (and Feinstein)? Is he annoyed, maybe, that O pounded the table for an AWB knowing that doing so made Reid the bad guy potentially for being unable to marshal the 60 votes needed.....

Here's the reason why DiFi was thrown under the bus:

Divided Senate panel approves bill for near-universal gun background checks

Published March 12, 2013

Associated Press

A divided Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday narrowly approved a Democratic bill expanding required federal background checks for nearly all gun purchases, but put off immediate consideration of an assault weapons ban.

The panel approved the measure by 10-8, supported by all Democrats and opposed by every Republican. Expanded background checks is at the heart of President Obama’s proposals to curb firearms. The sponsor is Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.

Schumer said the measure will reduce gun crimes, and said he hopes he can strike a compromise on the measure with Republicans, which would enhance the measure's chances of passing in the full Senate.

Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley, the top Republican on the panel, said he believes the measure will ultimately lead to a federal registry of gun owners — which is illegal. Schumer said that wouldn't happen.

The committee also approved a measure providing $40 million a year for school safety programs.

The committee postponed until Thursday a vote on a proposal by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., to ban assault weapons.

Now we have a “compromise” bill to “moderately” infringe on our right to keep and bear arms instead of completely overturning that God-given constitutional right. I imagine the ruling class elites will expect the republicans to compromise and support that moderate bill. DiFi’s distraction has served its purpose by providing a benchmark against which to compare the “moderate” bill for universal background checks (and registration). Sadly, at least a few republicans may support this “compromise”.

“Dianne has worked so hard on this,” Reid said.

Why? No one wants it except her. Kinda like Commiecare™.

The only way to solve problems is for them to undo what they’ve done in the last 100 years. repeal all the stupid government and laws they have piled on us in that time ,almost all by Democrat congresses.

The only real problems we have is them the politicians who many claim are there to solve problems. it is the government they have built up over the last 100 years that is the only problem ( that and the news media which made it possible for them to do it).

You know what? Maybe you can tell me where I'm going wrong, but how about an instant background check on the individual, which he/she can appeal if they say it is incorrect, and then that background check is destroyed after that purchase unless the BUYER doesn't want it to be? Why? Because they only want to register your guns. You can not tell what a persons future behavior will be, but you can look at their past. If things are ok, no felonies, psycho behavior, given them their gun. Then destroy the record and get out of their life. But Democrats see even this as not going far enough, so there's no compromise, we must fight gun control.

Just wondering if they’ll attach this bill to another bill, which has a good chance of passing, as an ‘amendment’, and push it thru? Somehow, they’ve got to appease 0scumbag/Fine-swine & Dingy Reid and get “something” passed. Again, just wondering how this stuff works... Couldn’t the House kill it if it made it that far?

Yep, gun registration is the real goal. They can’t take over without it.

Want to kill any “gun control” bills? Attach a “Violent Entertainment Tax” to it. 10% of the gross of all movies, video games and actor’s salaries that promote the use “violence”.

Use the same crap that libs use against us — “its for the children”, use this money for “education”, “stop the 1% elitist Hollywood rich from profiting from the violence against our kids”, etc, etc.

Does anybody speak the English language anymore??

The term COMPROMISE means that BOTH sides of an arguement get something.

Did the gun rights side get anything??? Iffen it did, I musta missed it.

Now folks, do you see the connection between Feinstein in California, and that Long Island critter Carolyn McCarthy?
Both of them, rabid, insane, anti-gun nuts, always dragging out the corpse of the male victim, that forever, changed their world.
Feinstein, dragging out the corpse of an openly gay mayor and gay-rights activist, Harvey Milk.
McCarthy, dragging out the corpse of her husband, a victim of a madman, killing innocent folks on a Long Island commuter train.
Neither one, in their taking the Oath of Office, denied that they would “protect and defend the Constitution of The United States”.
Both of them, must have read, (as Feinstein admitted to Sen. Cruz, publicly, that she was very familiar with The Constitution), the last words of The Second Amendment, i.e., “shall not be infringed”.
Yet, both of them, without one real scrap of knowledge of the functions or physical makeup of the very firearms that they have attempted to deny their constituents, and the rest of America, have attempted to make up laws that would bridle such firearms, due to their own secreted paradigms.

Well, o ye wench named Feinstein, how dost thou ‘feel’ now?
Maybe a nice Gadsden Flag bowling towel, with, ahem, ‘bless ‘um you’, might be sent to both her and McCarthy.

A formal registration system, or not, only makes a difference now in this transitional period from constitutional govt to tyranny. Once the govt decides to pull out the stops and go after the guns, data-mining makes it easy to know who owns what, based on credit card records, posts on forums like this, etc. SNA, or "social network analysis," was pioneered by our side in Iraq as a key intel tool. It's now used by the boys and girls down in the fusion centers every day. When they are given the order, they'll be able to make their confiscation lists in one day.

Unless, of course, they remember that oath they took to defend the Constitution, including ALL of the Bill of Rights. But that's a rather slim hope.

The hall mark of progressivism is to achieve it's goals one small step at a time. I call it the "Mother My I" approach. The template is the tobacco vilification.

In our beginning we were warned to keep an eternal vigilance on those we elect but we made the mistake to trust the news media to keep us informed.

“... Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). “She understands going back to the day she found the mayor dead in his office...”***

Di got her position because the mayor and his homo were shot dead by a man who, according to some reports at the time, happened to be a member of Handgun Control Inc.

Then he used the “Twinkie” defense.

Now, Dan White used a .38 S&W revolver in that shooting. So why is DiFi so hot to ban semi auto rifles?

Like I’ve said....It has always been about handguns. Assault rifles are just a decoy to try and get their anti-gun foot in the door.

Once they get a ban on AWs then they will use the same reasons to go after handguns.

John Kennedy killed with a 5 shot bolt action rifle.

Officer Tippit killed with a 6 shot revolver.

Charles Whitman, killed 14, wounded 32 others mostly with a bolt action 6mm hunting rifle. Also used a shotgun and an m1 carbine.

Medgar Evers, shot with a 5 shot 1917 bolt action Enfield rifle.

Martin Luther King, shot with a 4 shot Remington 760 pump action Gamemaster rifle.

Bobby Kennedy with a .22 Iver Johnson Cadet revolver.

George Wallace wounded with a 5 shot Charter Arms .38spl revolver.

Howard Johnsons shooter (Mark Essex) killed nine, wounded thirteen with a 4 shot RUGER .44 mag Deerslayer rifle.

Gerald Ford attacked with a 7 shot 1911 semi auto.

Edmond OK post office with two National Guard 7 shot 1911 pistols.

John Lennon murdered with a 5 shot Charter Arms revolver.

Ronald Reagan and Jim Brady with an RG-14 .22 revolver.

Ronald Gene Simmons: killed sixteen people. Strangled half his family, shot the other half with a .22 single action six shot revolver.

What do they all have in common? NONE over 7 rounds, yet after each one came a cry of panic to ban all of them.
