Say no to GOP Suicide
Jewish World Review ^ | September 25, 2013 | Dick Morris

Posted on 09/25/2013 11:58:20 AM PDT by Idaho_Cowboy

The Republican base must not require its representatives in Congress to run off a cliff and commit suicide as the price of avoiding a primary challenge in 2014. The Tea Party must not eat its young.

Polling shows that there are nowhere near the pre-conditions in place that would be necessary for a government shutdown over defunding ObamaCare. Americans oppose defunding it by 44 percent to 38 percent, according to a recent CNBC All-America Economic Survey — and when it comes to shutting down the government to force its defunding, opposition swells to 19-59. To force Republican congressmen to side with the 19s against the 59s is to endanger the gains the party made in 2010 and hasten the day of Democratic control of the House.

How do voters reconcile their opposition to ObamaCare with their opposition to a government shutdown to defund it? Think of the issue of teachers' pay and schools: voters strongly favor increases in teacher pay, but they just as strongly oppose teacher strikes, which close down schools as a way of achieving higher pay.

The whole idea of a government shutdown is a huge negative, implying a total instability of the two parties to co-exist or to govern. And polling suggests that voters are far more likely to blame Republicans for gridlock and conflict in Washington than Democrats. Instead of baiting its supporters to shut down the government to defund ObamaCare, the Tea Party and base voters should be demanding a firm stand on increasing the debt limit. While voters feel there is nothing positive to be achieved by shutting down the government, they do agree with stopping additional government borrowing until or unless there are substantial cuts in spending.

Not that this is surprising coming from Dick Morris. I'm so tired of these Vichy Republicans. I guarantee even if the Republicans followed his advice he would change his mind and advise that they can't risk a government shutdown over the debt ceiling either. Enough of these Vichy Collaborateur GOPe types. Looks like even Ted Cruz won't be able to shame them into being part of the Resistance to Obamacare's tyranny.

How was the poll worded? Did they know government funding was in place and Obamacare only was defunded?

Morris told us Romney would win big. His advice meaningless.

I want to hear from advisors who stood with Reagan on his 2 epic victories.

Dick Morris says that the Republicans should refrain from seeking to fund the whole government while defunding Obamacare but should seek to shut down the government in order to cut people's entitlements.

He cites poll data to show that the people would rather have their Rice bowl taken away from them than be relieved of Obamacare.

Did Dick Morris make any predictions about the 2012 presidential election? The congressional elections? Did he base any of his predictions on polling data?

If you want to hear from somebody who stood by Reagan you should listed to what Mark Levin said on his show yesterday. The GOP-e (Ford, the Bushes, Howard Baker, etc) hated Reagan’s guts, just like Cruz.

The sage advise we are getting is from the people who got us into this mess.

The republicans through their judgments and poor leadership are the losers responsible for the predicament in which we find ourselves.

We should consider that when we listen to their wisdom.

I’ve stuck up for him but from now on, when he has his own prime-time show on FNC, maybe I’ll listen to him. Not before.

Is it GOP suicide to lay down all pretense of fighting for anything but your jobs or to fight like civilization depended on it. I would rather die in battle than in craven surrender. If the GOP does not engage the fight with Cruz they are dead anyway.

It is time to sound the Horn of Rohan and ride out and fight to the end, surrender means the end of hope in Middle Earth. Ted Cruz is our Aragorn, and McCain our very own Grima Wormtongue.

The Horn of Helm Hammerhand will sound in the deep, one last time! .... Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin, and the red dawn.
