In SW Florida congressional race, who matters more: Palin or Paul?
The Tampa Bay Times' The Buzz ^ | April 15, 2014 | Alex Leary, Washington Bureau Chief

Endorsments can be overrated but in a conservative primary with a lot of noise and mud, could a high-profile name give a candidate the edge?

Congressional District 19 candidate Lizbeth Benacquisto recently got the backing of Sarah Palin, who held a fundraiser and sang the candidate's praises on Fox News.

Yesterday, Curt Clawson scored the endorsement of Sen. Rand Paul, among the first tea party backed candidates to make it big.

"Washington is desperate for outside leadership," Paul said. "Curt Clawson is an outsider who will bring refreshing ideas to the halls of Congress. Today, I proudly stand with Curt Clawson in his quest to restore fiscal stability and common sense government. Curt will stand with me in defending the Constitution."

I guess the answer depends on whether you are a Conservative or a Libertarian.

What’s the difference in their protégé’s win rates? I’m guessing Palin’s endorsement is worth more. How much more? No idea.

The quality and integrity of the “endorsed” matters most. In this case I would stand with Lizbeth Benacquisto, who was endorsed by Sara Palin.

I thought your question had to do with the people making the endorsement? That is what my response was to, not to any candidate running or their strengths or weaknesses. Did I misunderstand your question?

Palin endorsed McCain in the 2012 Arizona primary. Does that make him Conservative or Libertarian?

Sorry I directed that incorrectly, I thought the question in the thread was directed a certain way, I know you did not write it.

Does not make him either my point was who would pay more attention to Palin or Paul opinion, not the candidate. I still feel that is what the question asked.

Kind of a special case, don’t you think? Or would you turn your back on the man that nominated you to be vice president?

Paul endorsed McConnell, does that make Mitch Conservative or Libertarian?

Half of the GOP 2008 presidential ticket endorsed the top of the ticket, for his safe Senate seat in 2010.

McCain was reelected in 2010, not 2012.

Facts matter.

I’d have a lot more confidence in, and respect for, Rand Paul if he withdrew his endorsement of Mitch McConnell.

He’s busy meeting right now with Mitt Romney’s money people, probably arranged by Mitch, so I don’t think that’ll happen.
