Democratic operatives were just as surprised as everyone else by Eric Cantors defeat but now theyre trying to figure out how to make the most of it.
The early thinking: Stay out of the GOPs way.
Virginias 7th Congressional District probably isnt going their way, regardless of the Republican candidate switch. But operatives planning for the midterms believe they can turn Tuesdays surprising tea party resurgence into something much bigger.
They see the attention to the defeat as another cut at the House Republicans as extremists, a new way to highlight congressional dysfunction, a chance to pump more GOP distrust into the Latino voters Democrats are hoping to turn out in force in November, an argument that Republicans are in much worse shape than theyve purported to be.

Who the heck cares what Dems think..if Cantor had won they would have said something negative about that too..Dems know their goose is cooked in November..what else are they going to say..Cantor’s defeat is a good thing because we are sick and tired of watching these cockroaches cross our border every single day
The Dems are correct! ALWAYS trust the GOP to self-implode when they could retake the Senate. (Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory)....
The Dems are trying to get the Young People to Rise Up and take the country from Dem Dictatorship and give it to the Dem Dictatorship ,ya that’s right
Dems didn’t expect a Reagan landslide or 1994 Conservative majority in congress. All that happened when Conservatives got rid of alot of the squishes running the GOP. Dems should be nervous instead of being arrogantly confidant.
I made the mistake of clicking on to a “progressive” web site and the idea that VA-7 will elect a Christian, free market, conservative Neanderthal is unbelievable so they think the RAT will win hands down.
They may have it right if the GOPe let’s Brat hang like they did Cooch and the RATS front a “libertarian” third candidate.
No one is stopping us from sending money to Professor Brat.
