Congressional Democrats Fight The Idea Of An Ebola Travel Ban
The Daily Caller ^ | October 15, 2014 | Derek Hunter

Congressional Democrats are siding with the Obama administration — and against a growing number of Americans — when it comes to a government mandated travel ban from Ebola hotspots in Africa.

While 67 percent of Americans support the idea of a travel ban, many elected Democrats are decidedly against the idea. The Hill reports, “House Democrats are pushing back hard against proposals to institute a travel ban in the fight against the Ebola virus.”

Texas Democrat Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee told The Hill, “I don’t think we gain anything by spending our time talking about quarantines [of entire countries]. We don’t have an epidemic, and for that reason I don’t think that calling for a quarantine of countries answers the question. We have to turn internally and look at our own selves and make sure our health infrastructure is where it needs to be.”

Democrat congresswoman Gwen Moore of Wisconsin said of a travel ban, “Aside from being impractical, this reactionary strategy will force Ebola patients underground making it nearly impossible to track their movements, hinder the capacity for international healthcare workers to transport and administer critical aid, and erode the continent’s fragile economy.”

She didn’t elaborate as to how that would come to pass, or how it would impact Americans, the people she’s sworn to protect, but she apparently wasn’t asked.

Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Thomas Frieden, and the White House, have been adamantly opposed to a travel ban, siding with Jackson Lee in saying it would make things worse....

With a little less than 3 weeks to the election, the Republicans should be calling for a travel ban 24/7 and pounding the Democrats for refusing.

This is a gift from the Liberals and the Republicans are fools if they ignore it.

I think all incoming West Africans should have to be quarantined in DC at Dem Party HQ.

The sticky issue is what to do with health care workers who are already in those countries and how they might return to the U.S. Also, what to do with American citizens.

I support a ban but some provision would need to be made or else nobody from the U.S. trying to assist those infected would be able to return home.

How long would it take to travel from there to the U.S. by boat? Maybe that is the answer as that would allow for time in quasi-isolation for any symptoms to develop before they arrived in the U.S.

democrats -dumber than gorillas;

According to Pascaline Le Gouar, senior author of the study, Ebola disrupts gorillas in a very unique way, with entire populations quickly moving from an affected region and dissolving.

“Along with the decrease in survival and in reproduction, Ebola outbreak perturbed social dynamics in gorilla populations,” Le Gouar explained in a release.

According to the study, once gorillas became aware of an Ebola threat they began to purposely isolate themselves, no longer immigrating with neighboring populations and only rarely breeding. The result? The virus quickly runs out of hosts, disappearing from shrinking populations entirely in the course of a few months.

And while that’s good for gorillas, it leaves investigators with nothing to work with, and back at square one.

If we had simply blocked entry to the US for all persons coming from Ebola infected areas about 3 weeks ago there would be ZERO cases of Ebola contracted in the US. It is ridiculous that we are allowing free entry to anyone who may be carrying Ebola or other similar diseases and then can’t figure out why it is spreading here.

Democrat congresswoman Gwen Moore of Wisconsin said of a travel ban, “Aside from being impractical, this reactionary strategy will force Ebola patients underground making it nearly impossible to track their movements,

They can "track them" all they want, just don't let them in the U.S.

hinder the capacity for international healthcare workers to transport and administer critical aid, and erode the continent’s fragile economy.”

Healthcare workers can go there all they want and can ship anything they like there, just don't let them in the U.S.

Texas Democrat Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee told The Hill, “I don’t think we gain anything by spending our time talking about quarantines [of entire countries].

No one said to quarantine and countries, just don't let them in the U.S..

Opponents of a ban claim it will make it more difficult to get much needed medical supplies into the region, but are quick to casually dismiss charter flights or the fact that the government can fly in whatever and whoever it likes wherever it likes.

No one is saying to not send medical supplies to the region, just don't let them in the U.S.

Strawman argument after Strawman argument after Strawman argument after Strawman argument.

No one but the wanna-be communists are saying any of that crap.

American Citizens are saying don't let them in the U.S.

Any action on stopping migration to the US will seriously damage President Obola’s plan on executive amnesty.

The moonbats take the political route long before the lives of anybody.

Not yet, Sheila. That’s the point of a quarantine.

Congessional Democrats don't have to rely on failed, constitutionally indefensible Obamacare Democratcare if they need medical attention concerning ebola.

Maybe only semi-sticky. One form of the ban is to ban passport holders from the affected countries regardless of the flight origin.

Someone please explain how a travel ban makes things worse. It would be stopping issuing visas from those three countries, and arranging a couple of private charter flights for any Americans wishing to repatriate asap, then not allowing Americans with Liberia, Guinea, or sierra lione stamps back in until January at least.

Big whoop. How would it make the outbreak worse? Do explain that.
