A Ted Cruz loss would help GOP recover
The Boston Globe ^ | March 28, 2015 | Michael A. Cohen

Posted on 03/27/2015 7:38:55 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I have a confession to make: I’m a Democrat and a progressive, and I’m rooting for Ted Cruz to be the Republican presidential nominee in 2016.

It’s not because I think he will win or because I agree with anything he stands for. It’s because Cruz represents the best hope of returning sanity to American politics.

Cruz is perhaps the quintessential example of Republican politics, circa 2015. He’s uncompromising, ideologically inflexible, and doesn’t appear to be very interested in appealing to non-conservatives. His views are perhaps the most radical and extreme in a political party increasingly defined by rising levels of radicalism and extremism. He is the id of the modern conservative movement.

Like most Republicans, he desperately wants to repeal Obamacare. He thinks “alarmists’’ are flat earthers. He’s stridently pro-life. He wants to get rid of the IRS and hates immigration reform. He thinks President Obama is the most lawless president ever, which makes me want to send him a biography of Richard Nixon. His foreign policy views are loopy, immature, and scary. And if elected, he would probably make every effort to cut taxes to the bone, reduce social spending dramatically, appoint extremist judges to the nation’s courts and, when all is said and done, roll back the welfare state....

The more they talk, the more they give themselves away.

“appoint extremist judges to the nation’s courts”

I’m pretty sure we already have that.

“Quintessential” must have a meaning synonymous with “almost unique” in Mr. Cohen’s world.

"He’s uncompromising, ideologically inflexible, and doesn’t appear to be very interested in appealing to non-conservatives [liberals]."

Sounds like he's describing Obummer to me.

I can’t read liberals today without seeing the gross, glaring self-hypocrisy they are just totally unable to see in themselves.

I harbor vague recollections of the same thing being said about Ronald Reagan...now, how did that work out?

Probably 15% of Americans believe like this guy. Probably 30-40% of Americans believe like Ted Cruz. All we need to win is to get those who are true conservatives to get to the polls and vote. The libs turn out in droves and are even willing to vote several times because to them politics is a religion. To conservatives, politics is a hassle.

It is time we woke up and made sure that all of us like minded people not only get out and vote, but convince others of like mind to do so also.

The future of the Republic stands in the balance. We need a Ted Cruz and the only way we are going to get one is to get behind one.

I hope the lib’s help nominate Cruz.
I believe the general will be easier for Cruz to win than the nomination.

Did you ever stop to think that there are editors at the Boston Globe, and at hundreds of other newspapers, who choose to receive and print this garbage?

That no matter how stupid writing like this is, there is a staff of editors at each of 100’s of newspapers which choose to pull it off the wire and print it.

These are presumably intelligent, educated people — these editors. They can fill out tax forms and plan meals and do grocery shopping and keep the oil changed in their cars. And yet they sympathize with the view that Ted Cruz is somehow a radical.

The writer of the source article isn’t the problem.

Returning sanity? Like the vitriolic race baiting that passes for debate in the minds of the left. “The War on Women.” The hateful talking points. That’s sanity folks. What he means is conservatives will be back in their place or dead and the GOP will be back to cowering in fear. How about this? Cruz may be the only hope of a peaceful reconciliation. If he loses, don’t count on things returning to ‘sanity.’
