Republicans often rail about undocumented immigrants. But Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, an expected GOP presidential candidate, took it a step further Monday by sounding some critical notes about the number of those who immigrate to the U.S. legally.
"In terms of legal immigration, how we need to approach that going forward is saying -- the next president and the next Congress need to make decisions about a legal immigration system thats based on, first and foremost, on protecting American workers and American wages. Because the more Ive talked to folks, Ive talked to [Alabama Sen. Jeff] Sessions and others out there -- but it is a fundamentally lost issue by many in elected positions today -- is what is this doing for American workers looking for jobs, what is this doing to wages. And we need to have that be at the forefront of our discussion going forward," Walker said in an interview with Glenn Beck, according to Breitbart News.
Sessions, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committees immigration panel, has been one of the biggest opponents of President Barack Obama's immigration policies and frequently criticizes the administration over its so-called "amnesty" for undocumented immigrants. In a Washington Post op-ed on Friday, he argued that it was time to curb immigration flows into the country "so that wages can rise, welfare rolls can shrink and the forces of assimilation can knit us all more closely together."(continued)

We do have major shortages in high skilled areas in this country thanks to our wonderful education system, particularly in medicine, science, and technology. Those visas actually serve a purpose. I am a defense contractor that sells IT services and there are quite a few positions we can’tfill. We have to higher US citizens with security clearance and pay wellabove the market. I would imagine someone without the restrictions wpuld have to pluck someone out of India.
All I ever see from Walker supporters is what Walker says on immigration, not what he does, and a lot of what he says is that he moves over to the right, and only in thae last months.
Huff po or not
Walker or Cruz should make Sessions his running mate.
Fixed.
Quit low balling and you can fill those positions today. IT IS CALLED SUPPLY AND DEMAND. You are an anti - American bigot.
And Reagan started out as a Democrat - let’s not let the emotions override the gray matter.
I’d like to see the H1-B visa program reformed. Companies should be required to pay 10% higher salaries to H1-B workers than the prevailing rate. After all, if they can’t find that talent here in the US, it must be worth a premium...
The number of H1-B workers should also be drastically reduced, although I suspect the above requirement would do a lot in that direction...
Sessions is very sharp. My sister lives in Huntsville.
Good Point.
Did you read his entire post?
It undermines your ‘you’re an anti-American bigot’ comment.
The problem with his logic is we don’t even get qualified resumes to even get to the point where salary comes up. He also sent me a private message that said:
“You are the problem, you scab loving loser. Take the H-1B visa and shove it.”
His calling me a bigot and overall behavior reeks of leftist.
Calling me a leftist? Really?
Do you advertize salary ranges? Do you overload the impossible qualifications and complaining you can't fill the position so you can underhandedly bring in a H-1B with half the qualifications you originally advertized for? That is the way the "system" works.
HR trash bump.
I’m reminded of how Mitt Romney evolved in 2012 and the devolved again in the year or so after that.
The honest truth of the matter is that Scott Walker likely wants to do the same thing Marco Rubio wants to do which is get this immigration deal done and legalize the 11 million who are here because its the politically easy thing to do. If elected Walker will go along with the GOPe which will pass an immigration law declaring the border secured and letting everyone stay. Nobody learns English, nobody pays a fine, everybody goes on Social Security. The GOP wants to move on.
You don’t just change your mind on an issue as big as immigration.
I have a BIL who owns a defense contracting Corp in Hunstville, AL. He is hiring IT types now plus BSEE’s BSAE’s and MS in both plus logistics types, finance types you name it. He has not mentioned any hiring problems. I do know he said a number of the SOCOM GS-15’s were cut to 14’s a few years back in Tampa.
Baloney. The post was your opinion.
What does Reagan having voted democrat in the 1930s and 1940s have to do with today’s politics?
Yes and its likely I am right.
