Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina admitted Wednesday she used the H-1b visa program to hire foreign workers while CEO at Hewlett-Packard, but rejected any comparison to Disneys recently reported use of the program to displace American tech workers.
Did we ask American workers to train foreign workers with H-1b visas so that we can pay them less and lay them off? she said on the Howie Carr radio show Wednesday. The answer is most definitely no.
I cant remember exactly it was a long time ago how many [were brought in], she added. But there were some particular jobs where we needed particular sets of skills, where we were growing a particular business.
Fiorina laid off more than 30,000 employees while CEO of HP between 1999 and 2005, when she was fired. When you are doing tough but necessary things in tough times, not everyone is going to like that, she recently told CNN, pointing to the ultimate result of the company surviving tough times and growing....

I do not plan to vote for Carly — but if she laid of 30,000 when the company needed to layoff 30,000 then I say “Good”. I’m looking for a president who will layoff a very, very large number of federal workers.
She is climbing fast. Courage— strength — smart. Hiring H1B legal immigrants if fine.
Good VP candidate?
Bullstalin. Wait until the CEO jobs are outsourced.
The smart upper bosses at IBM said that laid off Americans should go to India and come back to work for IBM. They said that they would be paid less than before but their money would go farther.
It sure as hell is NOT about the skills set, it's all about the money it costs. Money that they skim for their own damn pocket. I don't begrudge them a million or a billion in the bank but when they cry to Congress and lie and say there isn't anyone stateside who can do the work and then they hire 2-3 employees (who underperform but are cheaper by the dozen) to do the same job, they are p!ssing on my shoes. And they don't just do this at places like HP, they do this to my whole industry.
But she is probably worse on illegals since she ran as the moderate alternative in the California GOP Primary.
It is good that she is being asked the question and actually sees it as an issue though.
replacing Americans with foreigners (another type of immigration) for cheaper labor is hideous
Most of the people she eliminated were dead wood who was holding the company back.
Good grief. This broad, couldn’t keep a lemonade stand afloat. She is absolutely- not, a candidate for anything, anywhere at anytime. Carly could not be more, disqualified- unless Hillary is the minimum, and then it’s a tie.
mrs ippi obviously doesn’t work in IT or care about anyone that does. Replacing American workers with H1B labor continues alongside outsourcing. Existing employed IT workers are just barely hanging on. You show up to the office and think you are in a foreign country.
did you read the article or just the title??
You are so right, it is happening still and it isn’t because we don’t have the skill set. Those of us still working have seen a lot of good people go with more planned and they aren’t the foreigners that are leaving, in fact more come onboard continually.
There’s nothing wrong with HB1 visas. There’s something wrong when Disney screws over thousands of current American employees to replace them. Big difference.
Oh, really? So you worked or work at HP and know for a fact the staff she let go were dead wood? Tell us more, what department did you work for, what project were you on?
What do you think H1b visas are for? Don’t tell me you believe what the government says they are for? Ha. They are to replace American workers.
Yeh I’m not cheerleading for Carly but Herman Cain came out and said when he took over Godfather Pizza he closed down 300 stores. Then he opened up about 300 new stores in better locations and brought the business back.
I lived through Carly’s malfeasance at HP.
100% correct. My SIL makes big bucks training Americans to OVERSEE H1b visa workers....
Not when there are Americans qualified to do the job but want more money from the employer than an H1B wants.
