I hope the size of a campaign warchest is not an indicator of success in an election.

If so, say “hello” to President Jeb! and Dog Catcher Donald.

Not just the “size” but the wisdom in using it. I wouldn’t hire Jeb’s people if I was running for county commissioner.

Really? And I thought it was all about delegates.

But since a New Yorker got 38,000 votes in “evangelical” Iowa, I’d call that an “optics” win.

Cruz started running for president the day he was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2012. (Who does that sound like?) Cruz spent TWO YEARS on his ground game in IOWA with thousands of volunteers. He had U.S. Rep. Steve King as his inside Iowa person stumping for him. He knew he had to make a big show in Iowa but after all that, he only won by FOUR points and had to steal votes from Carson to do it. For pete’s sake, read his biography, he’s no Wash. outsider. He recruited Chief Justice John Roberts for Bush so that already shows his poor judgement.

I know size doesn’t matter.

Maybe we should meet after Super Tuesday instead.

But I do wish that some of the Bush money would be spent again in New Hampshire, removing his ubiquitous signs. By far, most of the remaining ones sticking out of snowbanks stupidly proclaim “Jeb!”.

Fox news has been pimping Trump for months. They have given him far more airtime than any other candidate even the GOPe guys like Rubio and Bush. They have never challenged him with tough questions.

Kelly went after him with a question or two nothing that bad if you aren’t a whiner.

More unnamed insider info. Probably directly from the Rubio and Cruz campaigns.

My prediction is that Trump will win South Carolina but only by double digits

If Trump wins by triple digits, I'm going to be skeptical. :)

I'm for Trump. A little dose of reality. Trump cannot keep making mistakes and the latest were political mistakes

Agreed. If he comes out of SC with the win he should thank his lucky stars. They will already claim he lost if he doesn't win by more than 10-15. For me, a win is a win. But the heat is on now.

Optics are more important than delegates in the early races. A win is a win.

On that, we can certainly agree. This "expectations game" stuff is annoying. If you want the nomination, win.

Jeez, LS, I would think that as an historian, you would be a little more neutral about the outcome of this primary. Why are you so invested in one candidate?

you Cruz crazies have been lying and rewriting history here every hour here.

You posters are unhinged.

Fox debates have been designed as Trump ambushes .
The first one they plotted to attack Trump so badly they had security to marched off the the stage !
Have you ever heard that before !
oh course you have.

The second debate Fox had radical left wing
Muslim and Amnesty Democrats lined up to trash
Trump !

He did not fall for it.

Why did Fox allow two Dem nobodies radicals from YouTube in a Gop debate .

Murdoch is a globalist Amnesty elite threatened by Trumps nationalism . Cruz and the and all the rest are owned by Wall Street ! Cut the BS lies here!

Maybe because as a historian I see the future of the country at stake. I think Cruz and even Rubio (for the most part) have the right goals, ambitions-—but I think they are incapable of even slightly deviating the nation’s course, let alone turning it around.

Neither has the force of personality, the celebrity status, the ability to go over the heads of the DC political class or the independence from the donors to make substantive change.

And if we don’t do it now, it likely won’t ever get done.

Well, I’m not a Lindsey Graham supporter by any means, but I am just astounded that Trump had no more sense than to say, in SC, that SC voters had “the dumbest” Senator in the country! I would be astonished if Trump did NOT lose votes after his arrogant and insulting behavior there.

Boy, I would almost pay money to see his childish, immature and illogical rant if he came in third. He would hammer the SC voters like there was no tomorrow and the rest of the country could see it in living color.

Yes, that would be delicious! And I wonder whether he would accuse Cruz, Rubio, or BOTH of cheating and stealing votes?!

Oh I am sure he would. He cannot stand the idea of losing because people do not want him so he would have to make cheating accusations.

A psychologist could write an encyclopedia size study on this guy.

I fully expect Donald to win today... If Cruz is close he can fight on..if he loses by double digits he’s a dead man walking.

With that said I think Rubio wins in the long run

I’m a Cruz voter
