Ted Cruz just crushed Donald Trump in Washington State GOP delegates [dirty tricks]
The Week ^ | May 23, 2016 | Peter Weber

Washington State holds its Republican primary on Tuesday, and with one candidate left in the race, there's not too much drama about the outcome. But in a twist — and what would the 2016 race be without a twist? — 40 of Washington's 41 delegates selected Saturday to attend the Republican National Convention in July are Ted Cruz partisans. Cruz supporters outnumbered Donald Trump supporters at the state GOP convention in Pasco, and they were better organized, pushing through the Cruz slate of delegates over occasional protests from Trump backers, who noted repeatedly that Cruz is no longer in the race.

Among the Trump supporters who did not get elected a national delegate is Trump state campaign chairman Don Benton, a Washington State senator. Benton predicted that the Cruz delegates will come around to supporting Trump — in fact, ACCORDING TO STATE PARTY RULES, they have to VOTE FOR TRUMP at the convention, assuming Trump wins the primary on Tuesday. But the Republicans in Washington State are not yet unified, The Seattle Times reports, and several candidates for statewide office are either studiously not saying if they will support Trump, like gubernatorial candidate Bill Bryant, or saying they won't. "Do you think I enjoy this? Not supporting the nominee?" said Chris Vance, a GOP candidate for U.S. Senate. "It's unpleasant."

The headline should read “Washington State GOP Insures Delegates will go to Cruz on a Second Round of voting, if Necessary.”

“I truly despise this rotten MFer”

Why? These guys will vote for Trump.

This has zero to do with the nomination and everything to do with the platform. You would prefer liberal delegates since Trump was too disorganized to put any up?

Do you have a problem with a conservative platform?

Or are you just unaware of how the system works?

“Cruz is a much better Plan B than Romney, Ryan, Kasich, or any other GOPe member”

That might be true if Cruz actually got elected President, but as a candidate, Cruz would be crushed in the general, even against a candidate as horrible as Hillary.

I think the Cruz people are more concerned about the Rules and Platform committees and having a strong say in what comes out of those. Don’t forget also that only the POTUS candidate is bound on that first ballot. The VP candidate is not — meaning if, for example, in excess of 1237 delegates were Cruz partisans, they would have final veto power on any VP nominee put forward.

As a Cruzer who is all in for Trump as the nominee, I can live with having constitutional conservatives putting together the platform and keeping the GOPe out of the driver's seat anywhere.

GOP candidate against Baghdad Momma Patty Murray, Chris Vance, shot himself in the foot by not supporting Trump. If elected, Washington State will go from Mother in Tennis Shoes to Dad with Hole in Shoe.

Those delegates who attended the GOP State Convention in Pasco, Washington, were all selected by the slate tactic back in the District Caucuses. It was a mathematical game that was organized by Ted Cruz supporters at the district level. Their effort was a moot point when their candidate dropped out May 3rd. Their fantasy of having a convention party in Pasco popped like a Cruz balloon. These delegates, apparently, did not hear the pop! Instead they went about the process of electing Cruz delegates to the national convention. They justified it as a method to impose their values into the National Platform document. That was a misdirected effort and a waste of time. Knowing the reality of the Trump delegate achievement they should have spent their precious time changing course and jumping on the Trump train. Instead, their egos set themselves on a wasted course by spending the entire three (expensive) days basking in the fantasy of a Cruz nomination that will not happen and writing a platform that has minimal impact on the body politics.

Teddy IS the “establishment” and he’ll push for crappy, insane rules, that he imagines will somehow help him and ONLY him, like Romney did; however, Teddy, the POS, isn’t the nominee, will NEVER be the presidential nominee, and shan’t EVER be president.

I wouldn’t allow Cruz near Cleveland, let alone make a speech. He’s the enemy at this point. As much as Romney or Kristol.

If Cruz would just give up his little pity party and throw his support behind Trump, like "he-the-so-honest-and-Christian-one” agreed to do in writing to the RNC, then maybe his desperate and withering supporters would get off their soapboxes about how bad Trump is.

If these people persist, they will get Hillary elected just in order to salve Ted's wounded ego.

Trump hasn't won the state yet as the voting is today. However it is expected he'll win.

Here is the WA GOP info:

Tuesday, May 24th is the date of the Washington State Presidential Primary!

If you have not turned in your ballot, be sure to do so by 8:00 pm tomorrow night. Your vote counts!

The state-wide Republican results will determine allocation of 100% of the delegates to
the Cleveland Convention. While delegates were elected this weekend at the state convention, their
personal preferences will not be considered. Instead, YOU the Primary voters will decide
the allocation of the 44 votes from Washington State.

So make your voice heard. Turn in your ballot on time and make it count!

I guess Rush was gloating about Cruz “stealing” these delegates on his radio show. He said the primary isn’t over - and won’t endorse anyone. What a crock! He has all but endorsed Cruz all along. By the way - I detest Cruz more and more every day.

It gives the most rabid Cruz sycophants the chance to still drool over their “face of GOD” FRAUD and a glimmer of hope that he can do something to undermine Trump.

First of all Trump is going to win, and this won't hurt him. It could have theoretically hurt him if he does not make it to 1237 on the first ballot....however he is going to make it easily at this point.

The Washington State delegates who go to the convention will be people loyal to Cruz (or who used to be at least), however they are required to vote for whoever wins the primary on Tuesday for the first ballot (which almost certainly will be Trump).

The delegate selection was an earlier event than the primary election. A small little known event attended by people who are super active in the Republican party. Cruz had the place packed with his people so the process ended up with delegates loyal to him.

Now normal people would expect that delegate selection would happen after a primary and then the delegates selected would be those loyal to the candidates who won. And feel its dishonest and rigged to do otherwise. But people that attend these small little known party events so they can wield more power than less attentive and active participants seem to feel otherwise.

Fortunately the new Republican party rules for 2016 require that the delegates to be bound to vote for candidates who win a "candidate preference poll" on the first ballot, which is all Trump needs.
