In addition to a potential book deal just mentioned (or TV movie), the fact remains that if Michael gives up his guardianship and Terri regains coherence, she'll be able to attest to the degree of verbal and physical abuse many people believe she sufftered in the years leading up to her collapse.

She also might have repressed memories of some of the God-awful things I suspect Mikey might have said to her while she was just lying there all these years.

It's not gonna happen.

Here's another idea: are there twenty freepers who will post their promises to say a prayer right now to St. Therese of Lisieux, asking her to implore God for a miracle to save Terri?

Please, would twenty of you post and pray? After I hit "post" on this, I'll say my prayer.

>>the some of the doctors testified and the courts ruled she's in a "persistent vegetative state<<

That was my point (not knowing the distinction between PVS and a coma)- they said she already was and now they are saying she will slip into - thus she wasn't in the first place and this whole action is based on the lie that she is.

IOW she can't "slip into a coma" if she is already in a coma- and if she isn't (and I beleive the Schindlers that she isn't) then why the hell are they doing this to her.

I believe something can be done to help Terri now.

My God, she is an alive, fellow human being. What is wrong with these idiots who want her to die?

This is not the time for politics. This is the time for fellow human beings to come together to save another human being.

I will say a prayer to her. And to Teresa of Avila. And to Mother Teresa who is to be beatified either today or tomerrow. Saying my prayers, now.

No, the some of the doctors testified and the courts ruled she's in a "persistent vegetative state." The Schindlers dispute this.

Some did; some didn't. From what I understand, none of the ones that did followed the necessary protocols required to make such a determination.

And that's why I worded my response the way I did, including a statement that the Schindlers disputed this.

Thank you! Please, freepers, are there nineteen more prayers out there on behalf of Terri to St. Therese of Lisieux? I believe that twenty prayers could not be ignored. If you're Protestant, say your prayer straight to Jesus. Just do pray.

Please, don't give up hope. Please post and pray for Terri.

Coma and Persistent Vegetative State

A coma is a profound or deep state of unconsciousness. The affected individual is alive but is not able to react or respond to life around him/her. Coma may occur as an expected progression or complication of an underlying illness, or as a result of an event such as head trauma.

A persistent vegetative state, which sometimes follows a coma, refers to a condition in which individuals have lost cognitive neurological function and awareness of the environment but retain noncognitive function and a perserved sleep-wake cycle.

It is sometimes described as when a person is technically alive, but his/her brain is dead. However, that description is not completely accurate. In persistent vegetative state the individual loses the higher cerebral powers of the brain, but the functions of the brainstem, such as respiration (breathing) and circulation, remain relatively intact. Spontaneous movements may occur and the eyes may open in response to external stimuli, but the patient does not speak or obey commands. Patients in a vegetative state may appear somewhat normal. They may occasionally grimace, cry, or laugh.

Is there any treatment?

Once the patient is out of immediate danger, although still in coma or vegetative state, the medical care team will concentrate on preventing infections and maintaining the patient's physical state as much as possible.

Such maintenance includes preventing pneumonia and bed sores and providing balanced nutrition. Physical therapy may also be used to prevent contractures (permanent muscular contractions) and orthopedic deformities that would limit recovery for the patients who emerge from coma.

What is the prognosis?

The outcome for coma and vegetative state depends on the cause and on the location, severity, and extent of neurological damage: outcomes range from recovery to death. People may emerge from a coma with a combination of physical, intellectual, and psychological difficulties that need special attention.

Recovery usually occurs gradually, with patients acquiring more and more ability to respond. Some patients never progress beyond very basic responses, but many recover full awareness. Patients recovering from coma require close medical supervision. A coma rarely lasts more than 2 to 4 weeks. Some patients may regain a degree of awareness after vegetative state. Others may remain in a vegetative state for years or even decades. The most common cause of death for a person in a vegetative state is infection such as pneumonia.

I think I found the root of your problem.

Alex Jones, I would rather listen to Art Bell.

Our prayers are on-going. Not one minute goes by that we don't think about Terri and pray to God that his arms surround her.

It's not only the Schindlers that dispute it; it's also a number of doctors.

This is not the time for politics. This is the time for fellow human beings to come together to save another human being.

Amen.

This is an atrocity that cannot be allowed to stand. It represents the next evolution in the culture of death that has been spawned and fertilized by tens of millions of abortions IMHO.

We need individuals there, principally the family, who have the will, the commitment and the faith to put it all on the line like we did in Klamath. I saw the government reverse course there and return things to at least the status quo when the people there (a few hundred of us) made it clear that it was either that, or a very nasty and probably bloody fight against farmers who had supported this administration.

I believe the same would happen there.

Either way...you have to do what is right because it is right, regardless of the consequences. it is the only way to advance the right and keep evil from bearing sway. Evil is bearing sway in Florida right now.

God help and bless those folks...and God comfort and ease Terri's suffering.

Jeff

From this thread:

Just heard on Barbara Simpson's show on KSFO 560 that a monsigneur came to give Terri communion, with family present. Terri actually ATE SOME OF THE WAFER and swallowed it! Then the husband told the priest that if he tried to give her the wine, he would be arrested.

The report is that she is still in good condition, alert and not showing much signs of dehydration yet.

It's some woman named Pat who is reporting it. I get the feeling she is in Florida. She's promoting Terri's site right now.

KSFO is out of San Francisco. It doesn't mean that she's not in Florida, though, because a number of media outlets are there.

Praying constantly and consistantly.

God Please spare Terri!! Our hearts are crying out to you to stop this injustice. Give her the voice to cry out and ask for sustenance. Make this happen in the presence of someone who (legally) cannot ignore her. Give her the strength to fight this until this miracle happens. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen
