Notice that the number of illegals apprehended either before or after the increase in border enforcement is not included in this propaganda. The AP would never want the American public to know the real magnitude of the problem.

What part of CRIMINAL INVADERS don't these people understand.
A few more million CRIMINAL INVADERS and we will have a race war.

It isn't just people. The Southern border is a major corridor for drug smuggling. And despite the impression the author is trying to give, there's still a flood tide of people streaming in. The smugglers are organized and efficient, and exploit any weakness. They're even aided by the Mexican Army, who do convoy duty and use military assets to intercept or jam Border Patrol communications, and detect where the BP is operating.

Jose Porras, a migrant from the Mexican state of Guanajuato, stands next to a coffin shaped alter placed at the border fence on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 in Tijuana, Mexico. The alter is dedicated to migrants who have died while crossing from Mexico to the United States and corresponds to the Mexican traditional Day of the Dead, celebrated on Nov. 1 and 2, when people remember deceased family members and loved ones. The button he is wearing reads "Stop Gatekeeper," referring to the U.S. policy designed toclose the borders to undocumented immigration, which has forced many to take more dangerous mountain and desert routes. Porras is staying a migrant shelter after having been deported after he tried to enter the U.S. (AP Photo/David Maung)

No shit, and we all know how well the drug war has been going after 30 years or so.

I guess so. Now we offer drivers' licenses.

All the nice hardware they've got might be put to better use whenever the government stops giving free entry to countries that support terrorism, starts letting current illegals enter the US the civilized way (instead of making border smugglers rich), and ends the drug war. That way, the terrorists who do feel up to making the trip across the Rio Grande or surroundings will have less people to go to for help and more US agents on the lookout for them. This AP article does sound just a teeny weeny bit biased, but feel free to post something linking terrorism to Mexican border smuggling.

hasn't stopped even one known militant from slipping into America since Sept. 11
Apparently this reporter has intervued all known militants and believes them when they say they haven't been deterred from entering the U.S..... or maybe he knows of ones that made it in.

budgeting $9 billion for the fiscal year that began this Oct. 1, a $400 million increase over the previous year
A 4.4% increase. After 9/11. The author thinks this is excessive? This article is crap.
To: Pikamax
there is no border patrol when one million illegals enter the usa in one year...
