U.S. governor, Paul Bremer, has left for Washington at short notice and canceled a meeting on Tuesday with visiting Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller, the Polish delegation said.

Officials in the U.S.-led administration had no immediate comment on Bremer's trip to Washington

Probably related to the the General who says they're gonna start cracking down if the bombings don't stop.

There is no way Bush will cave and fire him.

I agree. This guy has better job security than anyone reading this. It's silly for that to even be suggested. The minute he would be fired, the 9 candidates for president would jump all over Bush for admitting he's failing in Iraq.

You think Bremer, being a State guy, is upset about the Generals comments?

He is speaking from Arlington--my guess is that to honor our veterans.

Yes. They were showing that on TV before some trial verdict in Texas was announced. I find it odd that they would interupt a radio show for the President's comments unless it was something more than a Veteran's day speech.

Resignation? Ask for a raise? I don't know. Your idea is very optimistic. I was sarcastically pointing that out as if it's a bad thing. It's not bad to be optimistic. People like optimists. Out of all the things it could be, your supposition is way over on the optimist side.

I'm praying for the optimist's scenerio.

So am I. How great it would be if they announced that Saddam had been captured on Veteran's Day!

Well. . .thanks. I think. :) I think its either good news, or no news here. I wasn't even thinking 'bad' news. Of course, I guess that depends on what 'bad' news is. Is bad news finding WMD? Is bad news that 5 soldiers were wounded in a firefight that lead to the capture of Sadaam? I don't know. Life's just weird sometimes. Its all in how you look at it.

No, I think there's probably some consultation involved to flesh out the details and limits on what "cracking down" means. Bremer has at least as big a stake in it as the military guys do. Wouldn't surprise me if some of the military brass have been called back, too.

Hmmm. Wonder if they've captured Saddam?

Or he could be a target of plot

I'm hoping it's about Saddam's capture

I can't imagine Bush is asking for his resignation, especially not in such a public way. If Bremer was to step down, it would be for the good old "family reasons," and they would not be so foolish as to blow off a meeting with the Poles to call Bremer on the carpet in D.C.

Tom Arnot (SP?) was on hardball last night interviewing a general in Baghdad---he said that he was targeted.

With Gen. Abizaids comments in mind, this unscheduled trip does sound like there is definitely something big on the horizon.

The suspense is killing me.
