I'm not real sure what they're denying here, but I think it's just that they didn't reveal classified information.

Perhaps they're also saying that the link between al-qaeda and Iraq is not necessarily there.

The only thing they are denying, is the Democrat's chance to use this information against Howard Dean. THAT is why it was leaked; If the Democrats dont stop Dean now, they never will. Then Dean will make McGovern look like a winner by comparison.

When Bush releases this information, it will be better sourced, and even more damaging to democrats then it would be against Dean today.

All DoD is saying is it shouldnt be leaked... but this is *confirming* that it is valid! some Democrat staffer/Senator already leaked the 'grim' CIA assessment on Iraq last week (what a joke, CIA has been wrong in all their predictions, who knows if this one is right or wrong). this is likely another capitol hill leak but almost certainly from 'our' side.

Administration is acting none too pleased. And why not. If Bush has something to say, he can get on primetime TV and say it.

But at least the truth is 'out there'.

No, not Hillary. There is a third faction involved in this.

Democrats know that Dean will turn losing into an art form if he gets the nomination. In doing so and then getting killed by Bush, he will also obliterate all the other Dems running, leaving the field open only to Hillary. If the other Dems want to be given a shot in 08, they have to at least stop Dean now.

If Gephardt, Kerry, Lieberman and Edwards want a shot at it now or in the future, they have to make sure that Dean does not get the nod. Hillary would like nothing better than for Dean to wipe out all her future competition, and then himself lose badly to Bush.

The memo leak is a desperation move against Dean, as the best known Anti-War Democrat. I would guess that someone close to Kerry on the Intel Committee put out the leak, so that Kerry could beat Dean over the head with it in their next debate.

So this means that Limbacher at NewsMax was all wet when he said that CIA had released the memo in the article posted earlier this morning. I quit going to NewsMax months & months ago but I got suckered into clicking this morning. I gotta' wonder if his oars have ever even been wet.

Beyond that, I don't know what DoD is saying here other than qualifying the memo in substance but maybe not in minutiae.

Fully agree. I wasn't considering another one of the Sorry Lot as candidates for setting up Dean. Guess that shows how little of a chance I believe any of them actually has, I think Dean will wrap up the nomination....unless the Beest does decide to run next year herself.
