Steve Centani of Fox News is reporting live from the top of the hotel, where the FN crew is staying. He just said that this is another attack on a soft target. He said that they have "scared the UN out, scared the Red Cross out,now they are trying to scare the journalists out.....we have decided to stay and report from the roof here."

I am watching too...I am thinking Whooopty do!

Its like throwing a dirt clod at a battleship. All you get is a loud bang and falling glass and you get 15 mins of fame.

Now if the hotel was hit by a 81mm, 105mm, 203mm piece of ARTILLERY, that would be big news...you can clean out entire rooms with that ordinance.

But right now, I think this was nothing to be really concerned about.

Israeli media reports it hit the "Palestine" Hotel. No reports of injuries, light damage to the hotel.

Another source reports it was the Sherton.

A final source says 2 explosions were heard.

This and the flurry of downed choppers over the last month should have red flags going up all over the Pentagon.

TACTICS, TACTICS, TACTICS and TACTICS.

Our's are wrong, and they need to be fixed YESTERDAY.

Either retaliate (and when I say retaliate - I mean wipe out whole city blocks in the surrounding areas where the choppers took off from) ~OR~ develop new tactics.

If I were in command, civilians would be evacuated from all building (homes, stores, businesses) within RPG range of helopads.

And anyone caught giving or recieving blood money for killing or attempting to kill an American would have one way out - the FIRING SQUAD. And, I'd make the Iraqis be the ones pulling the triggers.

This calls for new tactics.

Damn! Why can't these soldiers of Mohammed and their RPG's be rounded up, tied together, and detonated in the city square?

There may be some confusion about what the hotel is called. I believe that Steve Centani said in his original report that it might not be known as the "Sheraton".

I am watching Fox now and this one reporter was describing an RPG and said they could put on their shoulder and fire a half a mile away. Do they have that kind of range?

I'm not so sure. The terrorists seem to be very busy as the last week of Ramadan winds down.

FN's Dana Lewis, Steve Harrigan are staying at this Baghdad Sheraton that was hit by an RPG ~ 7 am, early morning.

RPG came through glass ceiling of the atrium - around 16th -17th floor, pieces of glass ceiling fell into the lobby ~ no reports of injuries.

The main CPA compound is across from this Sheraton.

Hopefully not too much falling glass. Other than with a direct hit, there is a way to protect it.

The mortars were fired from a donkey-cart. No injuries reported.

Maariv reports there are a few injured people.

Arutz 7 reports that a grenade was thrown at the hotel.

Explosion Hits Baghdad Sheraton Hotel

Thursday, November 20, 2003

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A loud explosion shook the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Baghdad Friday morning, causing limited damage. No casualties were immediately reported.

U.S. soldiers at the scene said a rocket-propelled grenade had struck the 16th floor of the hotel, which is home to a number of U.S. companies and foreign journalists.

The blast left a hole in the wall where the shell had struck and broke several windows on the 18-floor building.

Yes, apparently. But of course, they were 'insurgent' attacks. The rockets were apparently fired in the actual neighborhood, but we had intelligence these hotels were targets prior to this. What COWARDS these rodents are. They can't fight a war and win with their stone age technology, so they sneak around and try to kill innocents. If I hear ONE MORE statement from the White House about the 'religion of peace', I will puke! I am calling tomorrow morning, as a matter of fact.

Yes, but not particularly accurately. Not like hitting a large hotel requires one to be accurate.

1/2 mile isn't really all that far of a distance as modern weapons go.

I think a typical model of RPG will go 900 meters, which is about 1/2 mile. They explode on a square hit or after a few seconds, which limits the range. Different models have different levels of performance.

RPG's "max effective" range is supposed to be 350-400 meters for aimed fire.
As you said, they could hit a large building at their maximum range of 800 meters or so.

The IDF has an excellent point, but after discussing this with someone well-versed in military affairs I learned that using armor in Iraq would be highly impractical due to the nature of the mission there and the need for troop mobility without concern for vehicle weight, enormous fuel costs, etc. If armor is what is needed, then the nature of the U.S. occupation will have to change and there will longer be the same level of troop presence "out and about" among the Iraqi public.

Thank God, It looks like no serious injuries in these latest attacks. the more ou warriors coduct operations like "Iron Hammer" the more we will see these attacks slow down. We are winning, it will just take a while for the Press to be forced to admit it and start reporting it
