More Evidence Rush is a Lurker on Free Republic...
Rush Limbaugh Show | 11/24/2003 | Pyro7480

Rush just used the word "schadenfreude." It's more evidence Rush is a lurker on here...

Thanks now I can pronounce it, what does it mean? (surely I'm not the only one out here who doesn't know)

Desperate for support? Surely you jest.

Rush,

If I may Galadrielize one of your quotes:

Limited government is dead -- but hope remains!

It's time we Freepers give ourselves credit. This forum is the pre-eminent site for conservative political opinion

I live in a small rural community. Rush has changed this community from Liberal to Conservative in a few short years. In 1995 the local school was the only connection to the net. Now everyone is on the net, and Free Republic is the most popular website here. Every member of the volunteer fire department spends his/her time at the firehouse lurking or posting here. The political debates at the local saloon are straight from Rush and FR.

Rush Limbaugh and Free Republic have done more to change our community for the better than all of the state and local politicians put together!

Better examples are that he read from Congressman BillyBob today.

Last week he discussed something and referenced that it came from FR. Right after he read that bit he mentioned how Houston's new, not yet opened, light rail line had collided with an (evil) SUV (which was also a sidebarred thread on FR).

He does look at FR occassionally. The bigger deal is that he may be doing show prep from here.

It's also become obvious (whether or not your example holds) that FReepers are contibuting to the language of the discussion (Terry McAullife becomes Terry McAwful, useful idiots, C.A.N.S.W.E.R., Red Asner, scampaigns,...) and Rush is picking up on some of it. We are a part of the "culture" now.

Rush just used the word "schadenfreude."
Auf Deutch, "Die reinste freude ist die shadenfreude."

"The purest joy is the joy in others' misfortune."

Please don't patronize Rush by assuming that he could only know the word if he read it here.

You can however note that German spelling is phonetic--but that the rules of German pronunciation differ from those of English. The Germans pronounce an "e" at the end of a word, and it sounds as "ah." And the German pronunciation of "a" is always as the English would pronounce "a" as in "father".

Rush anglicized the pronunciation, making the trailing "e" silent and pronouncing the "a" (as I recall) more like "ay" than "ah".

"shay-den-froyd" rather than the German "shah-den-froy-dah"

No, I do not jest...

And I think that Rush would be the first to admit this if he is as honest as he has come across in the past. He knows he BLEW it big time, he knows he risked his life, his reputation, his marriage, and that BY THE GRACE of GOD, he may just have been spared.

He is smart enough to know that without his audience, he does not exist, he has no POWER. One does not innately attain power, it is given or assigned by his fellow humans. His claim to credibility is now on the line, as he admits he has lived a LIE for YEARS....this has no small impact on THINKING people.....

He knows that he may not get a second chance.....ask him.

Oh, and while I'm in the mood to write, I have to add:

Right now the LAST thing Rush needs is ass kissing yes-people telling him what he wants to hear.

He needs to be supported with the TRUTH...Encouraged to take the difficult route rather than the easy way out he has chosen for years...
He has been a glutton, unable to say no to his insatiable beast within.

Now, everyday he must say NO to himself..not easy for a spoiled, entitled individual. His intelligence can assist in his salvation.

Back when I used to listen to Rush regularly (which has gotten to be several years ago, now), I would read things here, and then he would bring them up on his show. It happened all the time. I knew then that he was a regular on FR, at least lurking.

If anyone wonders why I rarely listen to Rush these days, I must say I "blame" FR. On this site (and one other likeminded site) I can read at my own pace (which is FAST) and select what I want to tune in on. I am not bound by the speed of a speaker. I am now impatient with the way Rush stretches his material out. I will listen to Rush when I am driving and obviously cannot access the Internet.

But....

Proverbs 24:17-18
17. Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when he stumbles, do not let your heart rejoice,
18. or the LORD will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from him.

Every talk show on the radio, every TV News Department, has a producer (at least) on this site all the time. Part of the job.

Wouldn't be 'tall surprised if our friendly, helpful, and efficient government monitors us, too.

Of course the media lurks here. If you have done a lot of posting and comments you might notice a coindence of similiar material appearing in the mainstream media, within a short period of time.

He knows he BLEW it big time, he knows he risked his life, his reputation, his marriage, and that BY THE GRACE of GOD, he may just have been spared.

Can't disagree with that.

However, I've never thought Rush was perfect. Which may be why his prescription pain medicine addiction didn't render me squirrelly the way it did other people.

His political opinion is of value to me and millions of other like-minded folks. Does that make us unthinking? Nah, it just means we like his show, not to mention Rush as a person. It's funny how that so angers some.

Only evidence that he has a minimal knowledge of a centuries old word....he couldn't even pronounce it right.

prescription pain medicine....for which he did not have scripts?

I do hear you, the political philosophy and values he espouses should be the major attraction. People want to hear what he has to say. Question is, will his words carry the same impact they did, especially if the legal stuff rumored would turn out to be the worst case scenario...Damage is done either way.

Schadenfreude!

Beethoven (actually, Schiller) said it best--

Schadenfreude, schöner Götterfunken
Tochter aus Elysium
Wir betreten, feuertrunken
Himmlische dein Heiligtum

Perhaps he is more than a lurker. Maybe he even posts opinions from time to time. Stranger things have happened.

No chance, No call screeners here. He might have to actually answer questions.
