(Thanks for accepting that criticism like a man. Very cool of you.)

Heck, I walk the fine line every single day. It should be understood that all my stupid jokes are prefaced with an unwritten "You know, this might be more offensive than funny, so I apologize in advance for being a complete jerk, but I must try it anyways, so....."

;^)

the POTUS sure loves the troops...

And that is why he's there, not something cooked up about PR the way DU wants to spin it. This man cried, I posted that picture. I could see him sitting home Tuesday and telling Laura, you know where I would rather be for Thanksgiving...-smiles-

"Here's a laugher from DUmmyland, from a coward who can't face his dinner hosts:
He totally ruined mine. I just cancelled out on Thanksgiving with my friend's family"

I figured this would ruin the day for the DUmmies.

Makes my day even better. :)

Soldiers said they were impressed to see the commander in chief, the world's most powerful man, flying into Baghdad just days after a cargo plane was struck by a shoulder-fired missile.

"It was a shock," said Pvt. Jason Strickland of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

"It was a display of confidence in our ability to protect not just us, but him," said Pfc. Telo Monahan, 20, of Woodinville, Washington. "It was just three or four days after that DHL plane got hit."

Others said they'd been given a heartfelt boost after struggling with a difficult occupation.

"After 13 months in theater, my morale had kind of sputtered," said Capt. Mark St. Laurent, 36, of Leesburg, Virginia. "Now I'm good for another two months."

In the last picture, those are tears on his cheek.

I hope those military and other folks in Iraq told him what a high honor it was to have him there. I know I would have.

Here is one of my favorite stories about brass balls:

In the heyday of sailing ships, all war ships and many freighters carried iron cannons. Those cannon fired round iron cannon balls. It was necessary to keep a good supply near the cannon. But how to prevent them from rolling about the deck?

The best storage method devised was a square based pyramid with one ball on top, resting on four resting on nine which rested on sixteen. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon.

There was only one problem -- how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding/rolling from under the others? The solution was a metal plate called a "Monkey" with 16 round indentations. But if this plate was made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make "Brass Monkeys."

Few landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than iron when chilled. Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannon balls would come right off the monkey.

Thus, it was quite literally, "Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey!"

Enjoy!!!

Yeah, me too. I'm always mindful of the DU embargo here, but sometimes I just can't resist something so Schadenfreudelicious!

I would like to see the list of which reporters knew. The producer from Fox said they were tole yesterday, but had to keep quiet. David Asner saying it had been in the works for two weeks - and no leaks.

I don't know Chief Kujo.

Me either, but a moment's look at his Posts-in-Forum page make it exceedingly clear that he's US military stationed in Iraq. Wouldn't have been hard to add 2+2.

On security side, No problem, to fast for a reaction, unless the Iraqi's are monitoring FR full time.

"The Iraqis", as in the enemy on-site in Iraq still supporting Saddam, probably aren't reading FR, true. But all it would have taken was a single fifth columnist type (many of whom are absolutely obsessed with FR), who would then only have had to made one or two phone calls. Since it was posted as Breaking News, any theoretical symps wouldn't even have had to have been paying that much attention. Would they have had enough time to react in any event? Probably not, but as we've already learned, even the White House itself was worried enough not to take even the slightest risk.

No harm no foul in the end, of course, nor do I believe Kujo had any intention of putting Bush at risk.
