The story of the inaccuracy preceded the election in 2000. It was still not fixed as of this story. I personally haven't seen credible evidence that the degradation in performance was fixed. Note range as well as accuracy were impacted. That is not so easily tweaked.

There's no need to get snippy about it. Yes, I've read the Patriot Act and no, it doesn't restrict or infringe upon either our Constitution or our rights...unless you aren't a citizen it barely even applies (save for the banking industry and a couple of other areas).

Well, I just got a letter from my health insurance company (MSA) saying that they needed our signatures and other info because the Patriot Act requires that they track ~certain~ information about their customers. Can anybody tell me what that's all about and what it has to do with terrorists?

Uh-huh. And the LA Slimes probably just repeated the older article. They are about as unreliable a news source as can be found in this day and age. If it can be used to bash the defense community, it will run.

In other words, the liberal press didn't see fit to leak classified information that makes the defense community look good, therefore, the problem was never fixed.

Range wasn't directly affected. Reread the article carefully. Accuracy was degraded; the solution to said degradation involved reducing the range. That is a standard tradeoff in ICBMs. Once the bias is inside the required limits, the range issue goes away.

I'm sure that it would never occur to a terrorist to name a terrorist sympathizer or organization as a beneficiary to an insurance policy in order to get around restrictions on their wire transfers...

So...they can't just make a ruling in which they have a list of terrorist groups and the banks pop it in the computer and any transfers or whatever to them gets an *alert*? They have to keep records of millions of other people finances and medical information to do this? I think we can do better.
