To me, from these photos, I'd guess Saddam is in better health now than he was before the war. Looks like his diet has improved -- whole foods, fresh veggies. He's a strange man with a lot of different motivations, obviously. Dresses like a Tuscany sportsman, likes American fanstasy art, likes old biblical themes, eats the mediterrean diet, and is a ruthless murderer and despotic ruler.

Re: those pro-Saddam rallies. The NY Times reports...

In Tikrit, about 700 people rallied in the center of town Monday chanting ``Saddam is in our hearts, Saddam is in our blood.''

U.S. soldiers and Iraqi policemen yelled back: ``Saddam is in our jail.''

There are probably about 12 AKs in Iraq, and the AP and Reuters boys carry them around as props for the locals to pose with to increase the chance that their photos get published.

(Not really, but their lenses certainly have an affinity for the guns, don't they?)
