I agree. I won't own an S & W either and don't care that they're under new ownership or that the boycott is supposed to be over. At last year's SHOT Show I walked past their display and explained to the young lady who offered me their promotional material that I would never again own an S & W and wouldn't take their handouts. My sense was she'd heard the same message from plenty of others.

I really like my SRH in 454. I've held, but not fired both the S&W 500 and the BFR in S&W 500. Both are physically too big to be packable.

For the weight penalty, one can have a very nice carbine.

I think my forearms and biceps will develop quite nicely just lifting that thing.

You better have big hands and powerful forearms to fire that beast. And if you run out of ammo it probably makes a great club.

I've never fired any pistol heavier than a .45, so I have no idea. I wonder how the recoil compares to a pistol-gripped 12-gauge?
Realisticly, if it's not suitable for concealed carry, I might as well lug along my 12-gauge

I never did have the guts to shoot that thing. It is beautiful isn't it?
I called fiveshooter to tell him that his gun is famous. I noticed wardaddy posted the link to the pictures and video.

I have the BFR in 45-70 with a 10" barrel. The gunsmith warned me to keep the pressures under 31,000 PSI. The Marlin 1895G is rated for 40,000 CUP. My handloads in 45-70 are selected for the BFR. It's really not bad. I would like a TC Contender in .308 or similar for silhouettes, but that takes a backseat to the $$ set aside for the Hunter magnum this year. Magnum Research will fit a 450 Marlin cylinder to your 45-70 frame for $150. That puts a little more punch in that particular BFR.
I really like the workmanship of the Ruger .454 Casull. If I have some uncommitted funds next year, I might consider picking up a .480 Ruger as well. Perhaps I'll even have some time to take these beasties to the range next year. I've been so busy over the last few years that my vacation hour accrual just hit the maximum 480 limit this week.

When next I'm hunting T-Rex or skin of BRADLEY (fighting vehicle) I'll be sure to pick one up. Geeez this thing is even overkill on a RINO.

I love my 500!!
I have a 3" and 4" .44Magnum and even the 275gr .50 recoils more than either one.
But it is not a violent recoil. More of hard thud, pushing your palm back.
Let's put it this way; my 16yo son who weighs probably 135 soaking wet fires my 500 with 275gr. And HE thinks it's a blast!
Now the 440gr hits pretty hard. But the gun is just so awesome to shoot that one tends not to think about it too much. And it's very, very accurate. Keep the flinching down and you're there :-)
I don't really hunt (hope to change that soon), but have killed off a few watermelons with it. They pretty much explode. Quite funny to see!

I wonder how the recoil compares to a pistol-gripped 12-gauge?If a pistol-gripped 12 guage feels like a good smack to the palm from a 2 pound ball peen hammer, then this would probably be like a 1.9875 pound ball been hammer hitting you in the palm.
{ I have a Mossberg 500 12 Guage with a pistol grip that I got about 10 years ago. A year ago I realized that I hadn't shot it since right after I initially got it, so I decided to take it along to the range when we were sighting in for deer season. I loaded it up with 3" 00, pointed at the paper, pulled the trigger, and immediately remembered why I had not shot it in almost 10 years. }

At about $1000, I won't be getting one anytime soon unless Santa leaves it under my tree.
Does that price include the bipod? ;~)
