It's really sad to see how much France has degenerated in just the last ten years - when I was in Normandy in 92, every little village had "Rue General Eisenhower" and/or "Rue General Patton". Everywhere I went, someone would buy me a glass of wine for being an American. The American Cemetery at St. James (IIRC) was so tidy as to make Arlington look shabby. They still remembered who had bailed them out two times running, and were still grateful. I'm afraid the last of that generation are the ones who died of heat stroke last summer, though.

Richard Reid was on a flight out of Paris. Doesn't sound like they solved their security problems, does it?

No, the shoe-bomber was British. But let's say he was French!

I understand that the people in Normandy are still much more pro-America than the rest of the country.

I wonder if the French concerns had anything to do with a request from the American Embassy...

Hoping it's a false alarm

We many never know, considering a terrorist plan thrwarted just prior to execution results in... the status quo.

France..the home of the shoe-bomber, right?

Wrong. Richard Ried (spelling?) is a British citizen, no matter where the flight originated.

Was waiting for the first knee-jerk anti-French comment! Deep thinkin', from people who poured good wine onto the sidewalk and called the land of Lafayette "the enemy".

Nothing knee-jerk about anti-French commentary. They're a good part of the reason that we had to go to Iraq in the first place.

And at least they didn't pour out good beer!

On the serious side, I do hope that they caught some of the culprits. I suspect that their motives had nothing to do with their admiration for the US though - they're simply covering their backside.
