Why is it that the only immigration reform our leaders seem to be able to forumulate, involves a complete capitulation regarding the sanctity of our borders?
"A nation without border controls, is NOT A NATION!"

.."The bottom line is, as a country we have to come to grips with the presence of 8 to 12 million illegals"..
Oh we have to come to "grips" with the presence?? I can think of a few ways.. < being sarcastic of course > HOW about reorganizing the INS and ENFORCING THE LAW???

She said she does not support "a free ride for anybody, but at the same time we can't pretend that these folks aren't contributing. In many cases, they are doing jobs that others don't want to. Without them, we as a nation would have a difficult time functioning," she said. I am so darned SICK of hearing this baloney about illegal immigrants doing jobs that others don't want to. How do they KNOW no one else wants to do them when the jobs are filled by illegals? And I've also heard and read people claim that the illegal immigrants are taxpayers. Huh? Sales tax, maybe, but they can't pay income tax without a Social Security number and they can't have a Social Security number if they are not here legally.

As much as I like him, I pin this one directly on GWB. Someone please tell him that he ain't guvnah of Texas anymore and he no longer has to pander to the Texican voting block.
It is shameful for GWB to make the extraordinarily inarticulate Governor Ridge his frontman for this disaster.
Immigration is now a national security issue instead of an economic or "diversity" issue.

You are exactly right.. and what's interesting is that this SAME exact argument is being touted by the EU re immigration.

The USA aborted about 40+ million of its citizens the last thirty years..many of those would be in the height of their tax paying lives...
So now we have to import dregs to replace them....who are more of a burden on our resources than our own citizens would have been...
There are a lot of votes at stake now and ten years from now.....
Mexicans are about to be able to dictate policy regarding themselves..its like being able to vote yourself a raise and more benefits...

Ridge and the White HouseI heard on the radio (I don't know how true it is) that Ridge has said something to the fact that this semi-amnesty is going thru no matter what the citizens think. I'm wondering if anyone could confirm this. If true, its quite a slap in the face to the citizens.

One word here: POLITICS! To appease the pubbies, reform requires temp visa status. for the Rats, amnesty. Who loses? AZ, CA, NM, TX, BICE officers, Ranchers, Healthcare and other state services that you pay for. Who wins? A million illegals in the US and the another million who will cross every year, Fox, AFL-CIO Unions and the Rat party candidates it funds. Bush who can tell Mexican voters he's the man.
Ridge is failing!

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge ..what a joke. I heard Tancredo on Fox News Live this a.m. he stated exactly what needs to be done needless to say, he made David Asman a bit nervous. It was strange Asman didn't want to address what Tancredo was stating.

If this 'is' true, I am appalled and we need to send it to the DNC! They will get this coverage and Bush and Ridge will then have no choice, we must play their game and call them out before its too, too late!

The socialists both here and in Europe are banking on immigration. They need those people to pay the bills for the welfare programs they want. Since they worship abortion, they won't face up to the fact that we wouldn't need a massive influx immigrants if we didn't kill off millions of our own children.

Are we still having Primaries? I've seen on Fox News that two republicans are running against Bush in the primaries and one of them is from right here in St. Louis County and he's unhappy about the federal debt that has been run up under Bush's watch. Here in Mo. we're suppose to have a primary. I'll have to find out more about these two people.
I know that Bush will win the primary but it doesn't hurt to offer some resistance.

Ridge is failing! Is Bush being Ridge's puppet or are they a tagteam? This is a Rove strategy to pander for Hispanic votes.
Bush approved the plan and Ridge is floating the trial ballon
If Bush pushes this, it will be a huge mistake on the level of Bush 41 raising taxes after pledging not to.
A lot of people will just stay home rather than vote for him , costing him more votes than the Hispanic votes he hopes to gain.

"This is a kick in the teeth to the thousands of individuals across the world who are legally attempting to enter the United States," added Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. "Instead, the U.S. is saying, 'Why wait? Sneak on in! Whether you enter illegally or not, you will be a resident or citizen in no time.' The first lesson these new residents will learn about the U.S. is it is OK to break the law."

A friend is sponsoring someone from India to come over. Yea, were talking $1000 in applications and more for travel to and from NY! Also the friend has to go heck of a lot of red tape: background, taxes, employment verification, sponsorship requirements, etc. That's to get him here not citizenship. INS is a joke, but we don't say "well we just have to get a grip" and blanket amnesty illegals. Total overhaul is key but everyone wants to put a band-aid on it.

Multiply that by about 10 by the time it's done.. which brings up a question, if the feds get so much $$ for legal immigrants wouldn't it make sense for them to discourage illegals?

You are exactly right. The Democrats want illegals who will vote for their handouts and drag the rest of us down the drain with them.
Until we get serious about illegal immigration, our country will continue to decline. The focus needs to be on educated, LEGAL immigrants who have had criminal/medical background checks and who can supply the kinds of scientific, engineering and technological skills to CONTRIBUTE and help make our economy competitive in the 21st Century. The quality of our children's and grandchildren's future depends on the US taxpayers' willingness to quit funding and supporting illegal immigration.
To: JustPiper
Mexico is looking for the United States to ease restrictions on the entry of unskilled workers and on visas for family members of legal immigrants. Then lets just end that big joke called NAFTA and bring all the maquilas and factory jobs we sent to Mexico which was an agreement we made so they'd have jobs in Mexico. That government intends to send us every last one of it's unskilled ---- so we're going to need those NAFTA jobs all back for them to have something to do.

Bill O'Reilly and Rush need to jump on this issue. GWB doesn't care what we think about this because he already has our vote. I mean, if we let Dean become President we'll have bike paths crossing the Rio Grand. That's worse.
I'm sure that O'Reilly will be on it, but Rush is a little "all about me" lately, so he's useless here.

It would be far more than 20,000,000 because just like in that last amnesty, people will be coming over to claim their amnesty --- many people who never stepped foot in this country before.
