There are hunters who will take care of the problem for a small fee.

The moral of this story is:

Go out and buy a 12ga. shotgun and some slugs. Get familiar with it. Practice at short and long (50 yards) range until you can hit an 6"-8" plate every time.

And kill any bear that acts that way around your house ASAP and then dispose of it thoroughly.

Here in my end of Smuggler's Cove they'd arrest me for shooting one in my yard. Though I imagine my herd of rottweilers would be pretty safe..

Am so sad for your little dog and your familie's loss. We understand. We called to have someone come remove a dead racoon and they said since it was dead it was our responsibility to remove it. Well, we think they should have come out and tested it. It's disgraceful.

Call/visit the chief of Police, the Mayor, the city council, and do it tomorrow. Your tax money pays the salaries of those police men, and when you need help, you don't need a hassle.

I'd reccomend conibear traps for a mink. You almost never see them. Channel the mink into the trap by making a hole in the fence so the mink will go through and Bam, you got him.

It's not like the bears just drop when you shoot them. The dang things take a lot of killing, without a bear gun.
