Trying to keep out a bear is like trying to keep a Longhorn steer in.They will get through the fence if they want to.

This is a big deal, especially in Naples.
If the local morons don't do anything about it, call the local Fox TV station.
Those bears need to be tracked down and shot.
If they ever come out on the east side of the Everglades we'll take care of them.

Well, the bears were THERE first; and
they think its THEIR territory; and,
THEY'RE gonna go wherever they want to go.
Sorry, just one of my pet peeves.

Uh ... a shotgun ain't gonna cut it. I know from experience. It really ticks em off.

Holy moly! wow, I had no idea there were bear problems in Florida. I'm not being flip, I would never have thought it. So sorry to hear about your dog. May your New Year do nothing but improve from here on out.

I think "tacky" is a better description to your assumption about the dogs crapping in the neighbor's yard.
Wojo has 5 acres. His dogs don't have to go to the neighbor's yard to crap.
You are a tacky conservative.

I'm putting this on the Bang List so you can get some good advice on guns.
Shotguns: Mossberg 500 or 590, Remington 870.
Rifles: Marlin lever action in 45-70 or anything in that range.
Don't think because you buy something it will make you an expert. Using the item makes you an expert. Please practice.
Gotta go, I'm headed for the gunrange.

I have a barbed wire fence around the property. Excellent, then all you need is some insulator's and a electric fence charger, buy one that is low impedance, bear will not come through it and your dog will stay inside of it. Use a good copper ground. Problem solved.

"If a shotgun is going to be the answer a slug gun with more shot capacity would be infinitly better."
12 ga. 3" magnum sabots make a nice hole.

I'm so sorry about your cat. We almost lost ours to an abcess we didn't know he had until he was at death's door. It was pitiful-- we're lucky he survived.

Next night, back to the dumpster for dinner.I bet that pamplet no one wanted to read said "don't leave garbage out unsecured where wildlife can get it".

So you let your dog's out so they can go crap in the neighbor's yard? Build a fence, put an electric wire on top of it. End of problem. Those dogs gave warning that the bear was there. That's why I have a big yard dog, for that very purpose. Additionally, electric wire fences are not a problem for bears.

Jeez 45-70 will go through the bear and god knowa where. Shotgun with a slug is good. I have bagged more than one black bear with a .45 auto. My grandpa hunted them with .45 long Colt. My cousin takes then with a bow, So many choices.

The Big Picture is that anything resembling a normal family unit is now an endangered species. Dangerous animals weighing hundreds of pounds are "protected." You are not. Our kids are being fed this nonsense by the ton. Every animal show on tv will tell you that sharks don't want to hurt people, they just mistake us for Food! Zillions in govt. grants are being spent by scientists trying to prove that you SHOULDN'T try to kill a shark even AFTER it eats a human.
As you can see, even the police are fuly indoctrinated and afraid of the new laws. Their cars should say "To Serve And Protect - Them Not You"
