Poor Katie.
She had her dancing shoes all shined up for this interview and then she didn't get to dance.
Oh, well.

You're dead right. I consider I'm pretty well-informed, but it took me half-a-minute to come up with his name.

O'Neill: If the cover page and the attachments were secret, the cover page was not secretPerhaps things have changed since I worked with classified documents, but usually the cover sheet was labeled to indicate what the classification of the document inside was, i.e. confidential, secret, top secret etc. Put simply, the cover page was used to indicate if there was classified material enclosed instead of letting anyone open the document and then find out that they had comprimised security (need to know and all that).

Ah, the Liberals caught in their own hyperbole again! .... ONeill himself is debunking this "we planned the war" mantra ...
O'NEILL: Yeah, and the other thing that's good, today the book is going to be available, and this red meat frenzy that's occurred when people didn't have anything except snippets -- as an example, you know, people are trying to make a case that I said the president was planning war in Iraq early in the administration. Actually, there was a continuation of work that had been going on in the Clinton administration with the notion that there needed to be regime change in Iraq.
COURIC: So you see nothing wrong with that being at the top of the president's agenda 10 days after the inauguration?
O'NEILL: Absolutely not. One of the candidates had said this confirms his worst suspicions. I'm amazed that anyone would think that our government, on a continuing basis across political administrations, doesn't do contingency planning and look at circumstances. Saddam Hussein has been this forever. And so, I was surprised, as I've said in the book, that Iraq was given such a high priority. But I was not surprised that we were doing a continuation of planning that had been going on and looking at contingency options during the Clinton administration.

O'Neill is trying to distance himself from the book. His current statements make it sound like he didn't even read what was printed before it went to press with his name on it. This would make him a complete moron.

Katie is much better doing the cooking spots...and fashion stuff. She is way over her head on political matters.
If anyone looked flustered and frustrated it is perky Katie.
As for O'Neill, it look like he is trying to cover up his stupid ass.
Suskind ----a snake.

Backpeddle, schmackpeddle....
I STILL think we should go to O'Neill's house and heckle HIM!To quote an idea in an 'ol Seinfield episode--George suggests Jerry go to the heckler's work, and heckle THEM--since O'Neill doesn't HAVE a job right now, I took the liberty of saying "house" ;-)

I saw part of this "interview" this AM by accident. O'Neill was backtracking so much I am surprised he didn't end up in the Atlantic.
Katie looked deeply disappointed that O'Neill didn't demand for Bush's impeachement or a special prosecutor. She was sure hoping for something like that.
And did they have someone from Bush's camp come on a refute what O'Neil said? No, that is quite a change from the Clinton years when they didn't have Clinton critics that wrote book on their show or when they did, they had one of the Clintonistas on to refute what a Clinton critic said about their man.

There is a HUGE disconnect between Couric's interview of O'Neill (as well as others) and the 60 minutes piece. I think the unedited interview of O'Neill by Stahl should be released. I think Stahl did a MAJOR hit piece using creative editing. That is why O'Neill seemed so puzzled by people who said he was being critical of Bush.
There is a whole lot more to this story. Will anyone listen?

Yeah, it says a lot about O'Neil's agenda in writing the book, an attempt to justify his the poor work he did as a cabinet member. O'Neil says Suskind came to him, not the other way around. I am wondering if the documents from the treasury were a set up between someone at treasury and Suskind and if O'Neil was just a willing dupe. I mean this book has made him look worse than Bush.
I think that someone better put O'Neil on suicide watch.
