THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.. (A HIT OR A MISS?).. Live thread!

Contrary to popular media pronouncements, the first of the commercial showing of this long awaited, landmark, and controversial film has already debuted and the misconceptions that the fate of this endeavor hangs in the balance.. That is HOGWASH.. The Passion of the Christ is on the brink of a record breaking opening, in spite of the limited available screens, and the all out, and outragous efforts on the part of the National Media's near unanimous rejection, and the Hollywood establishment roadblocks to stymie this motion picture and it's brilliant and courageous director/producer..

I just receive a call from friends that attended a church sponsored midday showing of the movie with more than 850 of their fellow flock. The collective response was "it was sobering and breathtaking, and they existed with a profound feeling of moral inadequacy".

I toyed with the idea of accepting an invitation to book a private showing at a local theater for this weekend, however after calling a few local churches to help fill the seats I discovered that all (I call 12) of the parishes and neighborhood churches had already secured their own private dates with sellout crowds.. Every one of them had sold the seats within a day of their announcements... I just may book a threater in three weeks for all of my friends and family, that wish to watch it again, and again..

What's a Doxy? And will he have enough room to run around in my admittedly small loft?

Feeling of moral inadequacy? Yes, I think that's the only way we can feel in light of the standard God has set - perfection. Since none can attain that, we are left to put on the robe of righteousness that Jesus takes off his back to place on us....if we will just accept that free offer.

And that is what one would call "hitting the mark." :o)

Not sure why the diefication of Mary is/was an issue in review of this film, nor did I know that boycotting Catholics who do Christian movies would be a popular idea with anyone here.

Jeepers what a carnival.

Sir,

With all due repect, this is NOT a movie to view with popcorn. This is an accurate depiction of the crucifixion of our Savior Jesus Christ. It should repulse you, you should weep and wail at the penalty Jesus paid for you and me. We deserved all the humiliation and pain that He received. This movie is to be experienced, but it is not entertainment. Then meditate on the love of God, REJOICE in His perfect plan of salvation for all who believe.
John 3:16 clearly explains why Jesus died.

Got 4 for the 5 o'clock on Wednesday, and I hope the Mods will keep this one as THE live thread.

Love you, man. And, maybe you can toss in some yummy Lenten recipes for those who try to fast for Lent.

My Protestant preacher is going on Wednesday and he is preaching a series on the movie. He is very excited about the movie. I think most Protestants are excited about the movie.

It's time Christians work together for things that we all believe.

Our congregation bought our tickets last week for this Saturday. May the movies that follow appear with a new clarity - may we see them for the cheap wastes of time they are. May Hollywood become a financial wasteland to match it's current moral capacities.

I don;t think a questioning of Catholic religious practices had anything to do with post #12 being pulled. the poster had some very valid questions. it was the uncalled for out and out sliming of Mel gibson and his church that got the thread pulled.

The two things are different, there have been some spirited discussions about Mary and catholic views on many other threads that have stayed up. But to attack Mel and wish that his church is destroyed goes beyond the pale.

I myself, was raised Presbyterian and am now Southern Baptist. Personally, I have many questions about Catholicism and I disagree with much of their traditions and practices; but I am going to see this movie because no matter the differences in our Churches, we all believe the same thing -- The Lord Jesus Christ died up on the cross so that we may have life everlasting.

brokenness and humility BEFORE THE LORD is very good.

Often it's very good before man.

Well I'm here...and I am very willing to discuss Catholic or Protestant(Baptist) doctrine with anyone. BUT, it would be off topic and take away from Carlo's thread.

Hmmm considering that they said today that Pre-sales have already topped 8 MILLION (at an ave of $7 a pop) I would say MSNBC is a bunch of idiots. 8 Million X $7 is $56 MILLION and the movie hasn't even opened yet!

....the National Media's near unanimous rejection....

FWIW, current tally on rottentomatoes.com is 5 positive reviews ("fresh") and 3 negative reviews ("rotten"). Among major newspaper reviews it is 3 positive and 3 negative.
