Nirvana started a musical movement that lasted nearly two --- weeks. It's influence so transformed the rock world that the non-artform called rap not only filled the void but apparently destroyed rock and roll so completely that many people today -- never having been exposed to real musicians -- actually consider rap to be music. If I was responsible giving rap a entry into the music world I'd blow my brains out too.
Well, I re-read your entry and I still think that's what you meant by that.
Rap was up and coming around that time too. Think Run DMC, Doug E. Fresh, Dr. Dre and the like.
They were 2 separate movements that attracted two different cultures. Now, There is a lot of melding and merging between the two.
Love it or hate it, but you can't deny it.
Rap I think, was also the result of 80's angst, but from a different culture. You probably wouldn't be inclined to listen to it, but the rap of the 80's and very early 90s is MUCH MUCH different from the rap of today (which I can't stand, either)
As far as being talentless - can you flow words off the top of your head? I can't either. So yes, I do respect it as an artform... before bitc#es and ho's became more important than injustice and racism that is.

What I was saying is that if Nirvana's music was a powerful as some say then rock would still rule the airwaves. (I know there are still a few good bands, but I'm talking about rock still predominating, not exceptions.) Instead, it's like Nirvana marked the end of era and rap filled the void. The thing about rap is, anybody can do it. No, I mean ANYBODY. Bart Simpson, Sam Donaldson, you, me, kids with dow syndrome. ANYBODY.

I believe it was Kurt who summed up the biggest reason for his suicide, "Teenage angst has made me rich, now I'm young and bored..."
While many don't appreciate the impact Nirvana had on the history of rock and roll, alternative or whatever category you want to put it in, it is hard to deny.
