As far as I know, the Springfield 1911 frames are made in Brazil; I don't know if Taurus is involved in this venture.

Shows you where my mind is at...
I thought the story was going to be about this:

I believe it was Charles Askins Jr years ago in a gun mag article told how the 9mm was a great cartridge. In talking to an Englishman who used one in WWII, the Englishman said it worked well on Frenchmen I would not want to be on the receiving end of the 9mm parabellum.

If the acid test of any design is frequency of use and standing the test of time, the 1911 wins hands downI note that Sig Sauer has come out with their own 1911-pattern pistol; they certainly recognize a market winner when they see one.

My first 45 was an old Remington Rand GI as well. It was loose and floppy and I'm sure it wasn't accurate, but then neither was I so we were well-matched ;)
I bought a Springfield GI model but with bigger 3-dot sights in the early '90s and it's still my favorite pistol. It shoots and feeds anything I put in it and everything just plain works perfectly on it. If I could only keep one of my guns, this would be the one.

I dream of a custom 10mm longslide for hunting, hd and rangework and a compact 1911 10mm for ccw. The only other handgun you'd need would be a 22. Course, I'd probably still have a whole fleet of handguns besides these. I just think this would be a good and usefull combo.

I' sure they are excellent handguns, but even the script on the side looks like it was enscribed by a Las Vegas stripper.
I'm not much into handguns, but I think I prefer that Strayer-Voight 1911 better:

I thought the story was going to be about this: Where do you think the hole in the middle of that thing came from?

That's my bottom line too. If I could only keep one handgun, it would be a 1911A1.

I wonder if any of our troops have had the chance to field test the new H&K UMP .45 submachine gun?
To: umgud
I don't know if they're legal in the PRK, but the Tangfolio Witness Compact in 10mm (8 shot) is a good choice, but I really like my Glock 29 (10mm) compact, 10rds, hides really well, but kicks like a mule with full power 10mm loads. I've even got a Ruger Blackhawk (single action revolver) that is convertible to 10mm. I put a scope on it, and it is an excellent hunting weapon.

Good ol' RELIABLE 45.
With full metal jacket (non-expanding) 70% first shot stop.
Our brave fighting men deserve no less.

Kimber is making a 10mm, Glock still makes their 20 and 29 models, Witness has 10mm available in compact and full size (high demand for those), Smith and Wesson is still making the 610 revolver (highly prized are the 3" versions if you can find them), and there are numerous barrels and slide options available for 10mm "franken-guns" on a 1911 platform. I field at least 2 calls a week at our range from people interested in the 10mm, and have enough shooters that I stock 2 kinds of plinking ammo and 4 kinds of hollow point/defensive stuff
Yup 10mm is a dead round (sarcasm off)
those who know shoot 10's ;-)
