This column is posted early because it was written early, and because the 9/11 Commission hearings are at the top of the news, even as we speak.

I think Freepers will appreciate this. Let me know what you think.

As always , excellent job....BTW..do you know if the commission will issue one, or more, "minority reports?"

I think your closing quote was Benjamin Disraeli's, not Twain's, but I'm going from memory here.

As usual, a top-notch piece. Ben-Veniste's cute little effort to turn what was supposed to be a non-partisan, non-"Gotcha" search for truth into a partisan cross-examination of someone Democrats know to be a prime GOP contender for future high office, was disgusting.

Great article, Billybob! I have been referring to the commission as "the Hindsight Commission", and I laughed out loud yesterday when I heard somebody on the radio mention "Osama Ben-Veniste"!

Little by little, I think people are starting to realize how much the liberals on the commission have politicized the whole process. I hope this backfires on them big-time!

Ben-Veniste's colors should be known to anyone with even a modest short-term memory. He was a frequent guest on the Sunday talking-head shows around the time of the Lewinsky affair and Clinton's impeachment. I remember him vividly.

As you might expect, his role then was the exact opposite of his role now. He screamed "witch hunt", "innocence", "nothing to see here", and generally got out the whitewash brush at every opportunity. Now, of course, he seeks to show a conspiracy at every turn.

I found him to be obnoxious, snide and thoroughly dishonest. His contribution to the present circus does not surprise me in the slightest.

What annoys me the most is that the PDB didn't have a specific credible threat to act upon. I read the transcript of the PDB, did Ben-Venise see something there I missed?

Ben-Veniste's focus on the title is much like EVERYTHING the libs act upon, a label. A superficial element of an argument that enables posturing for political gain. Thank goodness we have the web to access and learn more.

I thought Condi handled Ben Veniste very well. She did not allow him to make the point HE wanted to make. He may get away with that kind of crap in a court of law, but this wasn't a court of law, and there wasn't a judge there to stop the answer of the witness.

Good on you, Dr. Rice!!

I'm going to split hairs with you in regards to reporters.

I honestly don't think reporters are incompetent, actually, I think the system under which they work is rigged to reward political correctness. (as defined by their editors) Plus, I think reports are also monumentally lazy and arrogant.

I would label most reporterss cynical, but, I think most reporters probably are not smart enough, nor do they know enough, to be cynical, other than in very superficial manner.

In short, I'm not as charitable as you are, and I'm not willing to give reporters a pass because they are "incompetent."

It is to Rice's everlasting credit that she stood her ground and didn't let that jerkoff bully her. People in general respect strength, and she had a lot of it. She made him look inept.

I think Eugene Levy should start taking his anti-psychotic meds again.
