This is a letter, reprinted with permission, from Major General James Mattis, the Commanding officer of the 1st MEF in Iraq. The General and I served on the same ship off Iran in 1980 when I was a young Corporal and he was a young Captain. I was not one of his troops, but I still keep in touch with some men that were.
He is highly spoken of, and his record since 9/11 is exemplary.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The General might be stopping by, if you wish to send him a message, thank his awesome Marines.
Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that the finest young men and women have gone forth from this country in the cause of liberty and freedom. You have blessed this nation as no other, and we praise You that these sons and daughters are Your greatest blessing. Watch over them where they are ... grant them success in their missions, for they seek to liberate and not to enslave. Equip them with the greatest courage, yet with the most tender of hearts, that others might be drawn to their resolve and their compassion. Return them safely to their families, we pray ... yet we know that some will return to You before they again see their families. Mark this grief upon our hearts, that we never forget that liberty is etched in blood. In the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...
Give them Hell, the Hottest Hell. Don't Stop. Let the monks and priests tend to their hearts and minds! Let the Marines concentrate all their focus on Killing the enemy.
Remember Fallujah.
I spoke this out in agreement with you and I ask others who come to this thread to do the same:
Thanks for the ping, RC! The only way we're gonna hear these things is if we get them out ourselves...
Amen, Padre. Amen!
Our DIVARTY Chap Father Ondo had the COL's heart and somehow I got tagged as the CESO with building a field confessional for Father Ondo. With a little help from the Supply SGT, and the S-4 I was able to order a set of RATT Rig curtains for a Jeep. With a couple of minor sewing alterations from two dear Ladies from the post Women of the Chapel and about an hours worth of entertainment for the troops in the motorpool as an officer actually did work it was in place.
Saw two grown men cry at the end of that day on seeing the Jeep mounted Field Confessional; Col O'Mera the DIVARTY Cdr. and Father Ondo.
Jeep mounted field confessional.
Reminds me of my days as a captain with the 101st doing field communion on the hood of a Jeep. I (literally) ran the wheels off that jeep. I've got pictures someplace.
Thanks for the post.
The Marines continue to live the CINC's words, "We will not tire, we will not falter, we will not fail."
May they continue to provide infinite justice as God's agents to those who have or would do us harm.
Race and MajGen James Mattis,
This letter is so encouraging when the news and the NYTimes attacks on our Commander in Chief has been so discouraging. Thank you so much. Our prayers, as always are with our troops.
God bless our troops. Thank you for the ping. My family's support and admiration of the troops is unwavering. We know who we need to thank for our freedom, it is the fine people who make up our military, past present and future.
We will never forget them, ever.
Not sure what happened to that post....I must have deleted an entire sentence while correcting a typo:
