Can anyone remember the conflict of interest that cost Kissinger his place on the 911 commission? I could find no references to it in the few news articles I could dig up on the Gorelick controversy.

I would think that even the Democrats would not dare claim a woman was a widow of 9/11 unless it were true. However, they have done such shameless things before. But I think you are correct that no reporters are going to dig too deeply into the lives of the widows.

Worse. He is a Rockefeller Republican. He was also a Clinton appointee. Clinton appointed Kean to serve on the Advisory Board to the President's Initiative on Race and as Chair of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Kean is on record stating he doesn't really know Bush, but is a good friend of Bill Clinton.

I don't really doubt that the chosen few are genuine 9/11 widows. But we in the general public have no way of knowing for sure. And the media that purports to act for us, is too busy trying to hound President Bush into apologizing for something — anything.

You know, this is actually a shame, though if he did it for legitimate reasons then he is a better man for it. I was just thinking as I was fixing dinner about what lightweights these Commissars are and the fact that we need some folks with Kissinger's gravitas on this committee. Have you looked at their resumes - hard core politicians and inside DC lawyers if they are not both at the same time. There is no one you would trust the well being of your children to on this committee.

What I want to know is why we (Republicans) are never prepared for any conflicts. Here, as I understand it, we appointed five commissioners and a lead commissioner, and we pick a bunch of nobodys. A bunch of RINOs. A bunch of limp-wristed has-beens. While the Dems pick vicious partisans such as Ben-Veniste, Kerrey, and Roemer. What were we thinking? This "new tone" garbage has to end. Conservatives have had enough of this pacifying the enemy. Why are we always bringing baseball bats to a gunfight? Why do we play Old Maid when the game is No-limit Texas hold-em? I am sick and tired of this. We should have put people on this commission like Newt Gingrich, Mark Levin, Ben Ginsberg, Al D'Amato, Dan Quayle, Robert Bork, and Ed Meese. At least then we'd be on the same turf.
