Interesting, "under GOD" in schools is a no no, but islamic doctrine blasted over loudspeakers 5 times a day is A-OK.

I made a post here on Freerepublic two years ago and mentioned that this was going to happen. People here said I was crazy and that it would NEVER happen in the United States.

That's just it though.... I thought a couple years ago they started restricting when Churches could ring their bells? Lawsuites and everything.

The fact that they all voted in favor of it shows their fear of the muslims. Dhimmitude is what they will get in return of their yielding to the vermin. This is the so called camels nose in the tent. Stay alert to what they will "ask" for next. There is supposed to be an appeal already filed...we'll see.

Well, I saw the people of this Michigan town on television last night and I do believe they are not going down without a fight. I expect more news about this.

I have no doubt Muslims in the US are going to push things as far as they can. However, unlike many other countries, we still have a strong Christian faith among a majority of our citizens. This will enable us to resist, unlike places like France.

If the churches cannot ring their bells, but the call to prayer can be broadcast, then I believe we are talking about a Constitutional issue which could be taken to the Supreme Court.

I would start by ringing those bells at the 10 churches closest to the mosque. And I would ring them at every call to prayer.

This just re-enforces my theory that city councils are a collection of the dumbest people in the area. I swear, to be qualified to be on any city council...you must first pass a test to determine how dumb you are. Only the bottom 10% even qualify and out of this group only the bottom 1% have any chance of being elected........

Since they have ok'd the loudspeakers, I see no reason why the churches cannot ring their bells in unison at the same time. I bet you could muster a volunteer force to do so.

Ringing of church bells would offend the muslims so it's not going to be allowed. We'll get used to it ---- they're getting used to it in the Sudan.

I hope and pray you are right.....as a metro Detroiter it breaks my heart to hear this happening in such a place as Hamtramck which used to be a mostly Polish Catholic community. I can't imagine what the oldest residents must be thinking. It must be offensive and intimidating at the same time to have to listen to a muslim call to prayer knowing what that faith preaches to their people. It's absolutely disgusting to know this will happen EVERYWHERE in the US if this isn't defeated in the court system. God help this country.

Big mistake by the city council. After a week or two of prayers 5 times a day and complaints of noise violations by an enraged citizenry, the council, in fear of their jobs (if not their lives) will be forced to rescind their ruling.

This is nuts. Church bells are being silenced so that Muslims can broacast their caterwauling at all hours of the day and night?

Where are these being broadcast? Are they loudspeakers that are on the mosque property? I don't understand?

The article doesn't say that churches cannot ring bells. The only mention of bells is: "...Opponents argued that church bells have no religious significance...."

Personally, I would prefer the sounds of silence.

The freeging ACLU are fighting churches all over this country for ringing their bells. Where are these losers now? Where is that thing about forcing the rest to hear your prayers! We get the government we deserve! If the ACLU, and the Moslems are well organize to destroy Christianity, and the stupid Christians are happy to let them, so be it!
