the reality of social security numbers being used is to me a statistical impossibility given the number of characters. Especially considering the first three digits of the number are nothing more than an area code for a place of birth [certain series are reserved for military born abroad, and immigrants]
Even if they used all three first digits, 000 to 999 [they dont], and the population was evenly distributed [it isnt], that leaves roughtly 280,000,000/999/99999 or 2.8 people[living] per number.
The truth of the matter is the number replication rate has been reported as between 7-10 people per number due to how they distribute the 'area code', and other methods. Further if you look at population turn over [birth, death, influx,outflow]...every single available number has been reasigned multiple times.
Obviously the solution is a 128 bit encrypted transdermal implant, and a barcode tatoo.

Gee, it's a darn good thing that people's social security account number isn't used for identification. Hmm, My social security card says "Not to be used for ID."
I can't believe my Government would lie to me. (sarcasm off)

Hummm, at the birth of social security one of the major arguments against the program was that everyone would be forced to have a number and that one day it might be used by the government as some sort of mandatory ID. The dems scoffed at those fears and assured the public that would never happen.
