The Pentagon's investigation reveals a clear thread of sexually charged abuse, including what could be called sado-masochism and rape. It runs throughout the incidents.
One can only hope that the animals who did this get locked up, away from people, for a long, long time. I sincerely doubt that someone who gets off on this kind of thing just leaves it behind.

That's a good looking vehicle. Mine is a dark green convertible -- I'm looking forward to some road tripping this weekend now that the weather here in Indiana has turned warm.

I owe you a picture in return -- unfortunately I don't have a great picture of the Colt .45 Auto that is much cherished by me and my family as an heirloom.

It was a US Soldier who blew the whistle on the abuse of the Iraqi prisoners. This was fairly predicable. If it were an enemy of this administration, they would have been doing everything in their power to claim responsibility.

"Sadly, most Americans will be successfully manipulated by this treachery of the media and the dnc outrageous amplification".
The American people have not let any of the earlier BS out of Iraq change their opinion of the President, and they will see the truth in this situation in how President Bush is handling this event.
The dims will howl at the moon, but this latest attack (running from Articles of Impeachment being filed against Rumsfeld, calling for his resignation, kerry blaming the President personally for the action of a few juveniles, and declaring the President a failed, and inexperienced leader who got us into a quagmire) will have the same effect on America that the Wellstone funeral had.
Latest FoxNews/Dynamics poll has the Prez leading kerry by 3, and leading by a similar amount in the majority of the 17 battle-ground states.
I'd say that the "Wellstone Effect" is just kickin' in 'bout now!

Well, a lot of it is pretty similar to some of the really bad High School Sports hazing stuff that's been in the news the last couple years.
The people doing it aren't doing it to get off sexually, any more than the homoerotic hazing stuff the high school jocks were doing it to get themselves off sexually; it's a pure humiliation and power thing; they were doing it to get a laugh and express dominance more than to be sexually aroused. The people doing it, like the high school jocks doing the sexual hazing stuff, are probably people who turn around and crack "faggot" jokes and whatnot.

Only thing is, Mapplethorpe used both himself and volunteers (although the 6-year old girl was definetely a crime) in his "art".
These prisoners were in custody, and in that circumstance, they are not volunteers, and besides, the duty of the MP's was to secure them and ensure their fair treatment.

Darby did everything right. I want to know who gave the pictures to the media. The pictures were given AFTER the investigation. CBS had been holding them for 2 weeks, that means mid-April, the report was handed down and the perps under arrest by then, why give out the photos? I don't think Darby did that.

The report I linked to detailed far worse than you say, including the rape of one female prisoner by a guard, and sodomy with a broomstick and chemlight. Also beatings and attack dogs being used. Oh, and prisoner's hands and feet being stomped on with combat boots.
The High School hazing is wrong and sick, but a high-schooler has a way out. When such nonsense was tried on me, I reacted with overwhelming, ruthless force on my attackers, thus blunting the attack. The kids can also file charges against the sickos doing it.
Bottom line, BOTH cases should be treated for what they are...sick, demented physical assault and rape.

Did the soldier make the report to the military superiors or to the media? The military announced an investigation of the incident back on January 13th. It was reported on the AP. Or, is this the guy that belatedly sent the pictures to the media because he was mad that he was being tarred with the same brush as those in the pictures? I saw a woman on Chris Matthews who said that her husband had reported it to the media because the military wasn't paying any attention. Then I saw a similar article from a San Jose paper (or maybe it was Oakland), that said that the guy first reported it to his superiors, but then later in the article it said he didn't because he was too scared, so he just sent the pics to the papers.

Who had the pictures and who distributed them is a great question. Were they sold or was it for purposes other than greed?..or both.

This Soldier did his duty and is probably miserable knowing that someone from the Pentagon sold his Army for either greed or to damage the administration. Spc. Darby should be commended, the Rat who dimed out to the press should be ashamed.

No doubt, there is a group of FR wingnuts led by chief wingnut poobah, tuning up to say "Specialist Darby should be executed for treason" and to accuse him, without evidence, of being paid off by Teresa Kerry... If the wingnuts don't think of it soon enough, the real nut will make sure it gets mentioned...
To: E Rocc
This guy did the right thing...BUT HE IS NOT A HERO [because he exposed this]
The press will crown him king no doubt.

The whole incident is distressing. And Bush's Democratic foes are loving the scandal -- I had to listen to a group of Democrats today going on and on about it, bashing Bush and Condi Rice.
