Ha ha. Cute one. One good joke deserves another, right? Here's a good one by James Carville:

"Back in 2000 a Republican friend warned me that if I voted for Al Gore and he won, the stock market would tank, we'd lose millions of jobs, and our military would be totally overstretched. You know what? I did vote for Gore, he did win, and I'll be damned if all those things didn't come true!"

Well, if you accept that the KKK is a domestic terrorist organization, and we already know "Sheetz" Byrd was a leader of that organization...well, some would call that evidence of involvement in domestic terrorism.

No, no. Evidence is proof, not guilt by association.

Otherwise, I could use the picture of Donald Rumsfeld shaking hands with Sadaam Hussein back in 1983, and say it supports an argument that our very own Secretary of Defense supports our stated enemy.

Here's an interesting Reagan quote for you:

"The Bush people have no right to speak for my father, particularly because of the position he's in now. Yes, some of the current policies are an extension of the '80s. But the overall thrust of this administration is not my father's -- these people are overly reaching, overly aggressive, overly secretive, and just plain corrupt. I don't trust these people."

RE: Post 559

Could you imagine the amount of money that would have to be targeted to the Defense budget if the USSR still existed & was still intent on instilling communist satellite nations around the world?
President Bush has enough to worry over with the global threat from Islam-terrorists.

Like Dubya, Ron Reagan is not a Jr..
With that said, I won't comment on the quote you posted attributed to RR's son, only out of the deep, solemn, and indomitable respect I hold for his dad.

Not bad, Sam, actually kind of clever.
But for a joke to really be funny it should contain some truth to it, as the one I previously posted did. ;^)

1: The decline in the economy and the stock market began in 2000.

2: Our economy was seriously effected by the WTC attack. You do realize that the WTC is in the heart of our nation's financial district, right??? ...And the fact that it was the worst attack on American soil in the history of this nation? (Yes, 9/11 was worse than Pearl Harbor, in both lives lost, and the effect on the economy.)

3: Our military is not overstretched, but we are in a multi-front war on terror. I recall in the 90's, the reduction in govt, bragged about by the Clinton Administration was mainly reductions in military, CIA, and Pentagon staff.

4:RE: jobs lost- We are now showing a net gain in jobs, and last year was an excellent year for the market and the eonomy, my IRA account confirms that) The economy is well on the rebound, in spite of Democrats trying to talk it down, for political gain.

5: Al Gore DID NOT win! We live in a republic, and according to our Constitution, the President is elected by the number of representatives in each state won,(electoral votes) not the number of popular votes.

Which is why the Gore team preplanned a legal challenge in Florida, as they knew the vote was going to be close there, so they hand-picked the three most liberal counties, whose election staff was controlled by democrats, to do a fraudulent recount. Why not recount the entire state, as is normaly the standard? Because they KNEW they would lose.
On top of that, democrats tried to get overseas miltary votes thrown out, because they arrived in mailbags that weren't post marked on time. Talk about voter disenfranchisement.

It is only because of our ignorant, dumbed down public education system, and willfully ignorant sour-grapes-democrats, who don't give a damn about what the constitution says, that the statement about Al Gore winning is given any credence.

Speaking of the popular vote, Al Gore did not even carry his home state of Tennessee.

The above facts somehow get ignored by Democrats.
Could it be they are not interested in facts, but only in spin, for political gain? - I think so.

Regards. -EX-Democrat, since 1992

I know this is just a joke, but do you actually subscribe to the argument that Dubyuh's win in '00 was somehow illegitimate?!

That'd be silly...MUD

Ann Coulter's "So Now They Think He Is Charming..."

"In fact and of course, liberals loathed Reagan. Their European friends loathed Reagan – the protests against our current president are positively anemic compared to the massive protests against President Reagan when he went to visit our dear "allies," whose sorry asses we spent billions of dollars defending against the Soviets for 50 years. Even the moderate Republicans currently trying to insinuate themselves onto Reagan's legacy weren't especially fond of Reagan at the time – especially when attacking him publicly would get them invites to the tonier Georgetown cocktail parties. Only authentic Americans loved Reagan."

Mudboy: "Sheetz" Byrd was a leader of that organization...well, some would call that evidence of involvement in domestic terrorism."

Sam's response: - "No, no. Evidence is proof, not guilt by association-
"Otherwise, I could use the picture of Donald Rumsfeld shaking hands with Sadaam Hussein back in 1983, and say it supports an argument that our very own Secretary of Defense supports our stated enemy..."

Sam, I could show you a picture of President Chirac standing with Saddam Hussein, as well as a couple other world leaders.

Saddam was an unknown in 1983, and in fact, in 1979, Jimmy Carter's administration sent the Manhatten Nuclear Reasearch papers to Hussein. We could go back further, and look at photos of FDR, and Uncle Joe Stalin standing side by side in Berlin.

But Bob Byrd was a Grand Kleagal in the KKK, which means he was a recruiter. More than just a passive member. He belonged to the KKK from 1942-1944.

In addition:

In 1945 Bob Byrd wrote to another senator:
"I will never go to war with a Negro by my side.
Rather I should die 1000 times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds." -
Bob Byrd

Just two short years ago, on the FOX news channel, Byrd told Tony Snow that there were "WHITE ni##ers" as well.
He used the term twice on the show, so it was NO accident. Old habits die hard for old KKK members. But Democrats in Congress have no problem heaping praise on this loathsome creature.

Now, THERE...is guilt by association.

"Waves of Reagan Supporters Descend On DeeCee!!"

"Tens of thousands of Americans are streaming through the Capitol Rotunda, undeterred by sweltering heat, to pay their final respects to Ronald Reagan (news - web sites). The public viewing goes on continuously until Friday morning. Capitol Police weren't giving out official crowd estimates. But visitors split into two columns as they entered the viewing area, filing around both sides of the casket in a process that roughly doubled the pace that enabled approximately 106,000 to view the president during a 33-hour period at the Reagan library in California."

Well, I'm off to pay my respects...MUD

I thought you were gone for the summer? Well, welcome back, I guess. I'll get to post #567 in a moment, but I'll answer your post about Byrd now, since it has a much bigger font. =)

Sam, I could show you a picture of President Chirac standing with Saddam Hussein, as well as a couple other world leaders.

You're missing my point. The point wasn't who got pictures taken with whom, the point was that circumstantial evidence by itself isn't good enough to make a broad argument. Just because Byrd was in an organization doesn't mean that he performed any lynchings on anyone, or even that he did anything illegal.

Show me some evidence that the West Virginia wing of the Klan, circa 1942-1944, lynched anyone. Then show me that Byrd was the man responsible behind said lynching. In fact, show me anything tangible that disproves anything he said about his words and actions in the '40's being a mistake. To be exact, his comments from back in 1952 were "After about a year, I became disinterested, quit paying my dues, and dropped my membership in the organization. During the nine years that have followed, I have never been interested in the Klan." Once you do that, then you might have some basis for calling Byrd a liar, as Mud tried to do about 100 posts ago.

No, it was no accident. But "guilt by association" is an oxymoron -- there is no such thing.

The entire quote, in context, was:

"They [race relations] are much, much better than they've ever been in my lifetime," Byrd said. "I think we talk about race too much. I think those problems are largely behind us... I just think we talk so much about it that we help to create somewhat of an illusion. I think we try to have good will. My old mom told me, 'Robert, you can't go to heaven if you hate anybody.' We practice that. There are white ni##ers. I've seen a lot of white ni##ers in my time; I'm going to use that word."

Clearly, he was talking about black stereotypes and how they can be applied to anyone. I wouldn't have use that word in any context, but I understand the larger point he was making, and I agree with that point. I'm certainly not going to go around hating the man and assuming he must have lynched people sixty years ago because of an offensive word he chose.

But, considering the bigoted tripe you've posted so far here about socialism and Islam, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you would.

If there are white ni##ersn in Byrds world, one can pretty well guess that there were black ones as well.
I didn't accuse Byrd of personally lynching any blacks. But Bob Byrd was a recruiter for the KKK, and a member of an organization that supported lynching, cross burning, and terrorizing blacks.

You can live in denial of that if you want, but I have NO doubt in my mind that he knew damn good and well what the agenda of the Ku Klux Klan was, as any good recruiter would know the AGENDA of the organization they are recruting for.

Sam:"But, considering the bigoted tripe you've posted so far here about socialism and Islam, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you would."

- This is a typical tact of someone with a weak argument, go ad homonym attack, and make it personal.

Sam, did I call YOU a bigot, or make any other personal slurs or attacks on your character??? NO.
I haven't made this personal in any way, to you, but it's clear that that is where you want to go, with your debate.

So, it's now: "bigoted" to criticize Islam, huh?

Well my friend, tell me what do you know about the Islamic practice of "Dhimmitude"?

Do you even know what it means? In case you don't, I'll inform you:

"Dhimmitude" is the Islamic "order" that challenges the principle that all men are created equal; it is the Muslim hierarchy, which starts with Muslim men, then Muslim women, at the top of the order, down to Jewish women who are at about the same rank as animals.

Is Dhimmitude bigoted, or am I, for pointing it out to folks like you, who seem to be totally un-aware that it even exists?

Tell me, Sam what do YOU know about the teachings of the intellectual godfathers of radical Islam : Hassan al-Banna [1], (founder of the Muslim Brotherhood"), Sayyid Qutb, Sayyid Abul A'la Maududi, Abdullah Azzam, Ibrahim Madhi [1], Sheikh Muhammad Saleh Al-Munajjid [3], or Ibn Khaldun? ( See QUOTES below.)

What do you know, Sam, about female "circumcision" otherwise known in the civilized world as "mutilation" of the female genitals, in the Muslim world?

What do you know, Sam, about the Muslim Brotherhood, which was started in 1929 by Hassan al Banna [2} and his order to convert non-muslims by force?

Learn a little bit about this "religion", it's practitioners abuses of women, their hatred of Jews, Christians, intolerance of anything liberal, before YOU call ME a bigot, my FRiend.

[1] -"Sheikh Ibrahim Madhi’s 2002 call to believers:
“Oh beloved, look to the East of the earth, find Japan and the ocean; "look to the West of the earth, find [some] country and the ocean. Be assured that these will be owned by the Muslim nation, as the Hadith says . . . ‘from the ocean to the ocean."

[2]: ..."Al-Banna was in perfect accord with that of classical Muslim scholars such as Ibn Khaldun, who taught in the fourteenth century that “in the Muslim community, the holy war is a religious duty, because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and (the obligation to) convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force.”

[2] Al-Banna wrote in 1934:

“It is a duty incumbent on every Muslim to struggle towards the aim of making every people Muslim and the whole world Islamic, so that the banner of Islam can flutter over the earth..."

[3] Sheikh Muhammad Saleh Al-Munajjid :
"Muslims must educate their children to Jihad, educating the children to Jihad and to hatred of the Jews, the Christians, and the infidels; educating the children to Jihad and to revival of the embers of Jihad in their souls. This is what is needed ."
