Many of the names originally came from Spain (for better or for worse). I think you can figure out the rest.

What does "for better or worse" mean in this post?

I spent a couple years in southern Mexico (Chiapas, Tabassco) contracted by PEMEX for oil services work. I employed many indigenous (Mayan) workers on these projects. The hatred toward the Spanish was incredible because of what I would refer to as apartheid light. The native Mexicans do have justifiable gripes because of the this two tiered racial system. That is what for better or for worse is in reference to. Anyone who has worked in southern Mexico knows that this country is not as stable as it seems.
