Cain: Isakson afraid of record

- Press release

5/24/2004

SKIDAWAY ISLAND, GA – Today, Herman Cain, Republican U.S. Senate candidate once again proved himself as the leading conservative in the race at the Skidaway Island debate. Defining his vision of Georgia, Cain promised to restart the Republican Revolution.

“The tax code is a mess, social security is a mess and spending in Congress is a mess,” Cain said. “One reason the Republican Revolution stalled is because too many members of Congress, like my opponent Rep. Johnny Isakson, are more interested in positionship than in leadership. They are just happy to be there. They can tell us what positions they have held and what committees they are on, but they can’t point to any bold solutions they have implemented while in Washington.”

Debates are an opportunity for the voters to see the candidates side-by-side and hear their stances on the issues. The Skidaway Island debate marked the fourth debate that Isakson has missed.

In a recent letter, Mr. Isakson asserted that the Republican Party is at its best when there is an honest and open debate about the issues.

“The problem is Mr. Isakson keeps ducking debates,” said Cain. “I would love to debate Mr. Isakson, but he won’t show up. He said that he wants to talk about the issues in front of as many people as he can, yet time and time again he does not take the opportunity to do so. He likes to say that he already has seven debates lined up, but what about the four debates that he has already missed? Are those voters not important to him?

“After last Thursday’s vote to allow women to have abortions on overseas military bases, I understand why he does not want to face the voters,” Cain continued. “He is afraid of his record. This vote is just one example of how Mr. Isakson wants to be all things to all people. He says he is pro-life, yet he votes for pro-choice legislation. He says he wants to control government spending, but he continues to sign onto big spending bills in Congress. He says he wants to reform the tax code, but he still continues to talk about overrated tax deductions instead of replacing it.

“Bold leadership and passion are needed in the United States Senate,” Cain concluded. “Georgians do not need a person who says one thing and then votes another. I have been clear and firm on my positions and I always will be. I have bold and necessary solutions to the big issues we face. I will not just show up and vote, I will rock the boat and drive the boat: that’s leadership.”

Georgians should send Herman Cain to the Senate. The White House wants a RINO there however.

Isaakson would be infinitely worse than Zell Miller, had he decided to continue serving in the United States Senate.

If he's elected, conservatives would actually lose clout in the senate. It doesn't really matter to me whether Cain, Collins or Bartell is elected to that seat; so long as Isaakson is defeated.

The only reason Isaakson was elected in the first place was because his primary opponent was moon-bat who had raised virtually no campaign funds.

It's long past time that he faced a real candidate.

Someone who doesn't overly embarass the President by dwelling too much on principle or actually takes seriously cutting back the obscene levels of spending in Washington. Someone who pretends to be Republican at home while doing business as usual in Washington. Johnny Isakson would fit the White House's bill for the kind of GA U.S Senator they'd like to see there.

no he hasn't

I don't think he will since there is no incumbent. He'll wait until after the July 20th primary, and run-off after that if needed.

Yeah, just look at their records. A guy who votes with the American Conservatve Union 84% of the time and picked Hastert for Speaker would be sooooo much worse than a guy who voted with the American Conservative Union 65% of the time and picked Tom Daschle for minority leader.

I don't know what you guys are smoking in Georgia to believe the RATs are the "true" conservatives there, but Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton are laughing all the way to the bank.

Well, I live in Bklyn., New York, so I wouldn't be able to answer that question.

I do however, have something to add to my earlier post.

Isaakson was the worst possible choice of the three candidates running to fill Sen. Nunn's seat when he retired in '96.

I think Milner won that primary, and wound up coming within a hair's breadth of winning that election. Unfortunately, Speaker Murphy-I'm glad his ass got the boot in the last legislative elections-had rigged the game after Coverdell won the last time. He basically eliminated the run-off voting that would have led to Milner winning that seat.

Personally, I think Chambliss is just as good as Milner would have been. Isaakson needs to lose though! There's no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

-good times, G.J.P.(Jr.)
