Gwen stands for ground wave emergency network. It involves a series of some 200 towers across the US. It utilizes ultra low frequency waves (which hug the ground) to transmit signals.
It was designed to communicate with US forces if usual methods of communications- satellites and the like- were disrupted or taken out. It was developed to provide "survivable C4".
There were a number of protests about this system in the 80's- because it was said to communicate with forces AFTER nuclear war had already eliminated the people.

I recall reading some papers by Bruce Blair and by another fellow( I forget his name) who was head of Stratcom some years back.
What stuck in my mind was that--Kiev was to receive over 100 nuclear hits. I would assume the same for our cities under Russian targetting.

(1010 WINS) (Haworth Borough, NJ) A small plane crashed on a golf course Thursday as its pilot attempted an emergency landing, police said.
The pilot was the only person in the plane and he was not injured in the 8:30 a.m. crash, police said.
No other details immediately were available.
The plane crashed on the grounds of Haworth Country Club, a private club in this Bergen County borough.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses humor (albeit feeble at times) as a defense against insanity - and boy-oh-boy are these some insane times. Like you, I wonder about the world my sons will inherit (if the Lord tarries).

What about the plane with the Kentucky Gov? And today they have had to stop the viewer's several times for security reasons.

I can't believe those officers yelled "Run For Your Lives"
I heard a sonic boom once in Lucern....fascinating. This sounded more "solid" like dropping a garbage truck off of a 4 story building. Anyway, no one seems worried about it. I called the non-emergency police # this morning and the gum-chewing dispatcher, who sounded not a day over 12 years old, said she hadn't even heard about it. My neighbors and I are mystified. A tranformer or something, maybe? Who knows.
