Press Court - Where the People Judge the Media
Presscourt.com ^ | 6-08-04

Posted on 06/08/2004 11:01:08 AM PDT by jmstein7

We're looking for a few good NewsCops! Find stories and report them. Make the press responsible for its own actions.

Where The People Judge

Walter Cronkite was the most trusted man in America during his tenure as anchor of CBS television news. His political ideology never was permitted to slant coverage of the news he reported. His stories were direct and to the point. After leaving that trusted position he made his opinions clear.

Chet Huntley and David Brinkley likewise did not slant the news. They were more concerned with the story being reported and not its potential to be used as a propaganda lure to gain the attention of an unsuspecting public for exposure to a different topic.

Edward R. Murrow reported on some of the most intense events of the time. During his emotional reports he never once changed the topic from what was being reported to what could be gained from connecting it to an ideological intent.

Today's news anchors and reporters share duties in multi-tasking through restricted budgets and blurred lines of responsibility. That does not give them the right to mix those tasks. Opinion should be clearly marked as opinion and stories should not reference any unrelated story.

Mission

PressCourt is the people's voice in news coverage.

Structured like a moderated discussion board with limited posting ability, PressCourt offers those who view, listen or read the news to report those who publish for having slanted, twisted or otherwise corrupted the news.

It does not matter if the slant is left, right or backwards. Slanting news stories at all is opinion and opinion has no place in news reporting.

PressCourt will not process complaints for opinion programming. Op-Ed pieces, opinion shows, debate programs or those that offer opinion are not approved.

News stories that are not intended to be opinion will be processed. Convicted news media will be announced in press releases and on this site.

I found this on the internet, and it sounds like a great idea. I wanted to share it with FReepers, as I think that it is relevent to what we do here.

This way, if you see a biased story on FR, you have someplace to report it to.

I think there could be a great symbiosis between FR and this site.

For the record, I am not affiliated with PressCourt in any way.

well, that's the myth.
reality check time: Cronkite's insertion of "The war is now unwinnable" in coverage of the '68 Tet Offensive (wherein the VC and NVA shot their bolt, and could have been rolled up like a cheap rug) contributed mightily to us losing the Vietnam War.

I'll save the taxpayers the trouble.

The Press is Guilty as Charged.

The Sentencing Hearing shall commence, whether what they've done to America is or is not, a cpaital offense.

It sounds like a good thing to try and get Bernard Goldberg involved in. Ive seen an interview with him where he was suggesting that there needs to be a peoples news service.

C'mon, either this writer was too young to be there, or his brain has turned to oatmeal. Cronkite, Huntley, Brinkley, Murrow were all liberals and known as liberals.

It's worth checking out -- if not just to take a therapeutic whack at the Times and the AP.

Although I completely agree that the press is biased today, it has been biased for a long time. Cronkite may have handled some stories in a non-partisan fashion, but certainly not Vietnam. He sure didn't wait to get off camera before making his personal views on that known, and going even farther by presenting his personal views as objective, newsworthy facts. The Press Court website has a good idea, but they need to rethink their philosophy if Walter Cronkite is their standard for good tv journalism!

How are the ads coming? I saw a thread a few weeks ago talking about some of your work that was going to be running on cable.

We're still not organized here. The good news is, I believe I've given one of the lawyers ulcers (he was the chief opponent). Maybe he'll be replaced with someone more inclined to my way of thinking. :)
