President Bush continued to host the G8 Summit from Georgia today as the UN unanimously approved a resolution on Iraq. During a brief media Q&A today, Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi paid honored President Reagan saying, "First of all, I would like to express my condolences to the pass away of President Reagan. I would like to pay respect to his achievement, especially in numerous achievements, especially in strengthening our Japan-U.S. bilateral relationship." Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I'm glad you are going to be off to watch on Friday. I wouldn't miss it for anything.

With you living in California, you can always go visit the burial site later, when it might be a little more private.

That would be a nice way to pay respects.

I live within 30 minutes of the George H.W. Bush library. Their daughter Robin is already buried there. They moved her a couple of years ago. It's lovely.

"Wow...he looks really good in that light blue shirt"

I have to agree. He looks exceptionally good in that shirt. Light blue is definitely his color.

History for at least the last century has been a great struggle, between tyranny and freedom. The more I study it, the more I see it writ, large and small, across so much.

Tyranny, in its varied forms from tin horn thugs to Marxists to 'Rats to political correctness to feminazi's to environmental wackos, is a great pox on human civilization, that has killed more than TB, malaria or the plague. Ideas are the DNA of human civilization, and tyranny in its varied forms is the sickness resulting from a particular broken idea.

The broken idea is the confusion of individual responsibility with group responsibility. This confusion has become more endemic with modern means of mass communication.

When you or I see a fat person sitting next to a thin person, we see that most likely the fat person has chosen to eat more and exercise less. When a leftist sees this, they see oppression and unfairness. It's not fair that the fat person has stolen the thin person's food, and society should fix it.

What should be an appreciation for our God given rights and responsibilities to each do the best we can with our brief time in this life, with opportunity for all, becomes instead societies obligation to see that everyone gets the same results. Where we delight in the great diversity of lives and results that we see in the people around us, leftists see unending examples of unfairness and inequality. The leftists confuse equal opportunity with equal result. Of course, any government that has the power to make us all equal, also has the power to make us all slaves.

The loss of faith in an underlying moral order and the failure to hold individuals responsible for their own choices and their consequences, instead placing that faith and trust in "society", leads to all manner of tyranny.

Like the struggle against a deeply infectious and virulent virus, the war on this disease may never end, so long as human society continues.

I got an email from http://www.mullings.com tonight, and he wrote the most wonderful article about just what Daschle is doing .. acting like the dems loved Reagan - who could get along with everybody - and the current admin cannot do that and therefore Bush cannot succeed.

It was a very interesting article.

Is it just me or does Tony Blair seem to genuinely like Bush? His expressions when he is with Bush convey real personal attachment to me - it is not the usual false smile of a politician.

What the dems. did to make fools of themselves--

First Kerry went to the Pres. Library to "pay his respects" to Ronald Reagan. He cut in line, brought his own film crew, made the sign of the cross (the hypocracy makes me sick) and gave the "thumbs up" sign as he left in his car.

Then there's this fuss that Clinton is mad because he was not asked to speak at the funeral. Seems he feels entitled to speak, and says a funeral should be a "non-partisan" event. How little class can anyone have? There's just no sense of decency.

I hope he/they don't do anything really stupid at the funeral, to get the attention they so crave, but I would not put it past the Clintoons or the Kerry's.

I think the Bushes and the Blairs all genuinely like and trust each other. They understand the issues we're facing today, in our countries and the whole world.

Many of the social problems we face today had their roots in the bishops in this country who have caused all kinds of mischief by their leanings to the far left.

POLLING UPDATE

CAVEAT: Polling at this juncture is meaningless . . . Kerry will get a BUMP after the DNC convention and GWB will get a BUMP after the RNC convention (which will happen a month AFTER the DNC convention) . . . all we need to do is make sure that GWB's BUMP lasts until November 2!!!!

ZOGBY
950 Likely Voters (MOE 3.2)
6/2-5/04

Approval Rating
6/05/04 46% excellent/good (52%-56% approve) 54% fair/poor
5/13/04 42% excellent/good (48%-42% approve) 58% fair/poor

Head-to-Head Match-up
6/05/04 Kerry 44% GWB 42%
5/13/04 Kerry 47% GWB 42%

Blue States/Red States (inverse differential within MOE)
BlueStates: Kerry 53% GWB 34%
Red States: Kerry 35% GWB 50%
[NOTE: Gallup puts the Red State differential at 48% GWB 44% Kerry (+4) -- Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm The polling disparity between Zogby and Gallup merely underscores the BOGUS nature of current polling techniques!]

Iraq War
June04 Worth It: 56% Not Worth It: 43% (+13)
May 04 Worth It: 47% Not Worth It: 50% (-3)
Dec 04 Worth It: 49% Not Worth It: 42% (+7)

GALLUP
1000 Adults (MOE 3)
6/3-6/04

Approval Rating
6/03-06/04 49% approve 49% disapprove (even)
5/21-23/04 47% approve 49% disapprove (-2)
5/07-09/04 46% approve 51% disapprove (-5)
[Trendline UP -- it can take 2-3 weeks for generic 'adults' to alter their perceptions based on new economic/War data!
FYI: According to Gallup, President Reagan's average approval rating was 52%!]

Head-to-Head Match-Up
896 Registered Voters (MOE 4)
6/03-06/04 Kerry 45% GWB 42% Nader 7%
599 Likely Voters (MOE 4)
6/03-06/04 Kerry 49% GWB 43% Nader 5%
[NOTE: Gallup's Match-up numbers are MEANINGLESS -- the sample size is TOO SMALL and the Margin of Error is TOO BIG!!!]

INVESTORS BUSINESS DAILY/TIPP
858 Registered Voters
6/1-6/04

6/01-06/04 GWB 43% Kerry 41% (+2)
5/12-18/04 GWB 42% Kerry 41%

BOTTOMLINE:
The President has survived 2-months of BRUTAL attacks from the Kerry/DNC/media cabal with his BASE solidly behind him (approximately 90%), his generic approval ratings hovering at the 50% mark, and his head-to-head match-up with Kerry still statistically tied!

The President is well-positioned for this fall's convention!
[Remember: The summer before their fall election victories, Lincoln, Truman, Reagan, and Bush 41 ALL trailed their Democrat opponents -- 3 of the 4 by double digits!!!]

GO BUSH-CHENEY 04 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Bush girls campaigning--I'd really love to see that. In the past I've heard that Pres. Bush has been sort of hurt that his girls were not involved in the campaigns. He will be soooo happy if they are involved in this one.

From blurbs I've read lately, they've become fine young women. They're going to do something with their lived, do some service things. Just like their parents! Like Laura, they will be a big asset to his campaign.

Hi Dr. Deb--

Thanks for the poll results. I had heard that the ZOGBY one was better for our President. I think you've said this--but if he can survive the last few months with all the stuff that's been going on, these numbers are looking pretty good!

It's going to be pretty interesting to see how everything shakes out this week, with the funeral of Ronald Reagan (those Bush men are going to have us all in tears, I think, including the Bush women!), Kerry's showing off at the Library, and Clintoons little tantrum.

I hope to heck they (Clintoon and Kerry) don't do something at the funeral, but I'm afraid their desire for attention will override their limited concept of tact and decency.

Thanks for the update, DrDeb. Good to see your computer stayed up long enough to post this time. Too bad you ended up in the "back pages" of the Dose, where fewer readers pass. Perhaps yourself or one of us stragglers can think to link to this post from the next Dose ...
