There's been no contact that I've seen between him and Nancy or the other two. I think he's been the "outsider" to Nancy, and that she tolerated him when Reagan was alive.

Hmmmm, and here I saw Michael embracing and being embraced and kissed by Nancy, Ron and Patti on Monday.

I just noticed something else...and I have a question. Why do the flags in front and back of the caisson have yellow bands around them?

Today too. Michael greeted Patti and Ron at the Library earlier, and was very warm with them. Ron seemed very warm towards him too, very large smiles, and I couldn't see Patti, she was off camera at the time.

Michael is so sweet, with his remembrances of his father.

He says he was the luckiest person in the world, he was actually chosen by RR to be his son.

So sweet.

I was in DC today for the procession, so for the chronicle of this thread I would like to add that the audio of the TV feed (on Fox which I had taped, and have just reviewed) was not what people experienced live.

Fox showed video of the caisson with band music blaring, but the bands were almost a mile ahead of the casket. There were only the horses' hooves making noise when it went by.

Also it seemed like Fox had their microphones along the route turned up way high. People were not talking loudly and joking anywhere near President Reagan's casket..

Mo, did you ever find out what the two medals, brooches or whatever that Nancy and Mrs Cheney were wearing signified? They were identical.

FOX is the loudest channel on the dial, compared to CNN, MSNBC, or CSPAN.

Very interesting comment from Lawrence O'Donnell on msnbc:

Saying he was in the SAG headquarters, and there are photos of every single actor you can think of, no matter how obscure.

Except for someone who was president of the SAG for several years.

Ronald Reagan.

Tears flowing at the sadness in her face!

That photo took me by surprise, up til now I have been able to restrain most tears, but just when I reached it - trying to get through this important thread - the Battle Hymn of the Republic was playing on my TV -( I am just now playing the ceremony entering the Capitol.)

How fitting! Lady Thatcher and President Reagan were warriors!

I am so glad that she was strong enough to come to the Funeral.

Besides the awesome wonder of this sad but in some ways joyuous day, it has been great to see all the formerly esteemed Freepers posts. To clarify, I mean the dear ones who have left the site for a time.
Know we enjoy hearing from you.
And for all the "guesses" re Nancy's state of "holding up well and gracious", take it from someone experienced in losing her husband from similar circumstances, the funeral days are way easier than later, when you get home and reality sinks in................
It is actually easier than people imagine, to coast through the funeral, but later is unexplainable.

I watched the whole thing on CSPAN, with no commentary. It was the most reverent and humbling display of the formality of governance and tribute. From the time The Gipper left Cali to the locked off cameras at the rotunda it was pure grace.

The caisson, the riderless horse, the spontaneous applause, the shouted encouragement to Nancy, the sheer number of people and functionaries in the oppressive heat, the clockwork precision of the march to the Capital, the daunting climb of the steps, the triumphant surge of the notes of The Battle Hymm of the Republic, the glancing adoration of Nancy on the casket, the impassioned speeches at the time of repose, the etherial voices in the choir, the grace of The Iron Lady, and finally the steadfast discipline of the honor guard at Ronnie's side, it's all too much.

But what blows me away more than anything is the overwhelming number of people who took time out of their lives to travel, face nightmarish parking, family sacrifice, heat, and long lines, only to stop for a few seconds to salute, bow, make the sign of the cross, hold their hands over their hearts, and any other manner of respect for a man who did nothing more than rise to a challenge and do the right thing.

It's such a simple notion and he did it and he took us with him. God bless America.

[July 4th]

This is the week where it all comes together. The nation has been treated to a positive view of a great American President, and will continue to be treated to glowing accolades into the weekend, after which the campaigns will start up again. But what is there left for the opposing party to campaign on?

Conservatism has been successfully passed on to the public when it comes to taxation. Lower taxes are a mantra for both parties now. The only question is how.

Iraq will drop from the radar as sovereignty is passed. Furthermore, Kerry's issue of "going to the UN" has been taken from the table. Bush went. He got an agreement. He won.

The economy is on the upswing. People are going back to work at a blistering pace. The economy is growing. Why change leadership now?

And the coup de grace. America has been terror-free for three years. National security policy is working, and working well.

This week is it. It's the turning point; it's the point of distillation for the Bush campaign. People across the nation should realize, "yeah, you know what - our President has done a pretty good job, and the minor quibbles that we might have with him are nothing compared to the good that he has done."

A nation drunk on political rhetoric has been sobered up, and they'll have a much clearer view of this nation's mission and purpose.

God bless Ronald Reagan for giving our nation the opportunity to remain optimistic today.
