I love photos like this. Gives a real sense of being there. And the photo of the riderless horse is terrific.

And see, I saw the tossing his head as being proud. It seemed fitting to me:') These are wonderful pictures but this one and another I saw elsewhere where RR is leaving a media room from the WH impressed me the most. It was kind of dark and he was headed towards the light and had his hand raised in a good bye or farewell gesture.

When my mare does that, I fuss at her and slap her neck. It's a resistance move, and I try to nip all insubordination in the bud.
Sergeant York is reacting to the hand on his bit by flipping his head back. I would rather see him arch his neck and prance if he's feeling a bit frisky, I hate to see such a handsome guy with his neck inverted. But maybe his handler had just popped him for being bad . . .
The military rules do prescribe that the leading hand be six inches from the bit, and I think Sergeant York would be a little less fractious with the leading hand a little further away. Maybe draw reins or a German martingale?
All that said, it's a long march in hot weather on hard pavement for a spirited horse, and it was probably just a moment of mild protest along the way.

Thank you so much for the pics. It means a lot to those of us who couldn't be there or see it on the tube. What a treasure you have captured! The pic of Nancy in the limo is very special, too.
(--and easily the best capture of the caparisoned horse I've seen.)
Thanks again!
