WASHINGTON - Plagued by miscommunication and confusion, the Pentagons air-defense command missed an opportunity to possibly intercept at least one of the hijacked planes on Sept. 11, the federal panel reviewing the attacks said Thursday in a report released ahead of its last public hearing before it wraps up its work.
The report details missteps by aviation and military officials that squandered precious moments between the time air traffic controllers became aware of the first hijacking and the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 into a Pennsylvania field more than an hour later.

Here we go...
Ummm, releasing data being discussed today - before it is discussed.
Yesterday the Washington Compost had a glowing article about Kean and the comission. Then all the leaks. Does anybody not believe they are organized?
I think the staff reports come out 1st, then the commission discusses them, and comes out with their report.
Pearl Harbor Panel: Some Bombers could have been Saved.
The FAA's official policy towards hijackers had been meet their immediate demands first then settle the issue on the ground. That's no longer in effect. Just like the "religion of peace" line is basically no longer in effect. 9/11 was a wakeup call. The one good thing is we got that call before islamo's got a nuke.
One plane was stopped. It was stopped by everyday Americans who took the bull by the horns and took it down in a field in Pennsylvania. The 9/11 Commissioners are an utter disgrace and dishonor the memories of those who rolled.
staff reports are here:

The passengers missed an opportunity to stop all of jets. They got one, so we know it could have been done.
See how easy it is. I should have been on the commission.
One jet was stopped.
Can anyone here imagine what would have been said by Demoncrats and the lamestream press if Bush had authorized the shooting down of an airliner over a sparsely inhabited portion of Western Pennsylvania? For that matter, suppose Bush had authorized all four airliners to be shot down based on some super-secret, not-yet-released CIA report. Would the press be praising Bush? Or would they be blasting him for killing Americans without proof of a crime?
Remember that Kerry's plan to combat terrorism is to enlarge the budgets of the "first responders" so they can put out the fires of the next attack faster, recover the bodies quicker and track down the criminal masterminds in short order. Bush's plan is to kill them first. Which do you agree with?
Yeah. And if Clinton had gone after Osama, instead of Monica, 3000 + people would alive today. And if Gorelick had not hogtied the FBI and the CIA, 3000 + people would be alive today.
The 9/11 panel is one worthless politically bias f'n POS hell bent on destroying GWB!
I heard on one radio show yesterday that the military jet was not armed. So the decision they would have had to make was whether or not they would have rammed their jet into the passenger plane, thereby making their flight a suicide one. It was either on Imus, Bennett or Smerconish--I flip between the three in the mornings.
If Bush had ordered planes to be shot down, the left would have gone insane!!!
Not only that, but they would have portrayed it as Bush shooting down innocent Americans to save himself. As God is my witness, that is the truth.
But for the fact that Bill Clinton's military had become a total joke. After having spent trillions on national defense, the public has every right to be pissed. Two guys with Stingers could have shot down that plane.
