The EPA is in the process of shutting down all indoor ranges for lead contamination, I just learned at a meeting of one of the several clubs I also belong to.

I am aware of that and, quite frankly, I am privy to certain information because I am on the executive board.

Oh, well, hello Pennsylvania!

In that upper right picture, he looks like he's never fired a shotgun before. Putting the butt on your shoulder might be a good idea, johnny boy.

We are supposed to be a nation of riflemen but I am afraid that day has gone.

Fear not! Reports of the demise of the Nation of Riflemen are highly exaggerated and premature.

Best regards,

Are you a cook or a rifleman?

A technical intelligence officer. A handgun would have been all they would have issued me. Of course a few of my slightly older colleegs told me about finding more serious firepower on their own. Everything from serious handguns, like .44 Magnum (AF issue was only a .38Spl) to Shotguns to M-16s to grenade launchers. :)

I would like to buy an M-1 carbine, but it is even illegal to OWN one in the People's Republic of New Jersey.

Then MTT (Move to Texas), where it's not only legal, it reqires no permit or other "permission" from the State. If you buy one from an indivdual, as I did, it also doesnt' require any federal paperwork. Sarah Brady and Diane Fienswine hate Texas. :) Same goes for a Garand or a semi-auto version of the M-14, (M-1A or other clone).

Who's going to pay for this government training program? Why can't people learn this in the private sector, the way our Founding Fathers envisioned?

Actually they envisioned the states doing it according to rules and regulations approved by Congress. They modeled the original militia system after that of the Swiss, which was then quite similar to what it is now, save the types of arms used.

From Article I, section 8: Congress shall have the power to

...

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

That only works if there is a spine connected to it. ;-)

I think a fair example of what could happen to California is Kosovo. Like California, Kosovo was clearly Serb terrority. Like California, immigrants felt a claim to Kosovo.

Exactly.

Do you shoot clays with a rifle? Last guy I heard of who did that was Henry Bowman.

I hear a BBgun and thrown Ritz crackers work wonders at some of the shooting schools.

I don't want our military budget sapped to train a bunch of punks how to 'play soldier', when they'd rather be out smoking pot, drinking beer, and slavering over skimpilly clad women. I don't want those punks anywhere near Iraq, even if they were trained. I want our tax money spent on volunteers. If someone wants to hone his fighting skills at home, great. I salute him. But until we get this failed war-on-poverty straightened out, until we quit trying to stop hospital construction to save flies, until we allow drilling in ANWR, until we switch to a national sales tax, until we allow school choice for all parents, we don't have a lot of cash to throw around.
