I'm in Balad today. Yesterday we were in Tikrit, at one of Saddam's old palaces. Day before we were in Mosul, and before that at in Baghdad. The nightly Blackhawk flights are awesome. We have had a few minor mortar incidents but nothing serious.
Next we are heading to Taji, and then Fallujah & Ramadi. We may be locked down during the July 1 transition. It's been very interesting.
I'll send pictures when I get more bandwidth.

My bandwidth is pretty slow, so I can't give you the interesting details. I will say that we were on a road convoy last night, in the gun truck with the 50 caliber gunner. I had an M16 and there was also the SAW gunner on top with NVG's.
We passed through local country and the local folks appeared to be just living their lives trying to get by and did not approach us in a threatening manner. Every contact I've had with the locals has been positive. They will offer you water and fresh bread right out of the oven.
I believe there are just a few troublemakers and the average Iraqi citizen just wants to be left alone to live his life. I'm seeing a positive impact we are making here. The few incidents are unfortunate, but I don't believe they are all out to get us.
The soldiers are outstanding, and are doing their best in very difficult (and very hot) circumstances. Its been averaging 120 during the day. Then you have to wear helmet & body armor everywhere you go.
I've done more soldiering in the past week than in 25 years in the Army reserve. How's that for irony?
The easy part is over. It may get ugly the next week or so. We can only pray for safe passage.
Say hi to the family.
See you later,
Bruce
Pass on prayers and encouragement from all of us who believe in them.
Please tell Bruce we are praying for our brave troops and brave civilian contractors in Iraq.

Awesome. Shame the scum left can't appreciate any of this. But then, if they could, they wouldn't be the scum left.
Thanks r9etb:
Astute observation of how well the evil doers understand flanking maneuvers upon the electronic mass media battlefield.
Fortunately, we're treated as liberators among those too poor to watch Al-Jezera propaganda.
Shame the scum left can't appreciate any of this. But then, if they could, they wouldn't be the scum left.

Bruce,
As expected, your e-mail from Iraq is a hit. People are starved for Iraq information, other than predictable liberal mantra. When you get more bandwith, view the post here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1160015/posts

Keep up the good work, stay safe, and tell the troops with you we're very proud of their outstanding discipline. They shouldn't be disillusioned by the endless parade of high profile human debris/liberal scum/useful idiots dominating the mass media. Many of them are politicians now.
And those of us at home "FReep" them, bringing rain on their parade. Poor Hanoi John Fn Kerry, protesters outnumbered his supporters at his Cleveland fundraiser rally last April: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1125803/posts
