BAGHDAD, Iraq - An Islamic extremist group denied in a statement posted on its Web site Sunday that it had killed an American Marine taken hostage last month.
The Ansar al-Sunna Army issued the statement in response to reports by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry that the group killed Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun. The Lebanese statement followed a declaration in the name of Ansar al-Sunna on two other extremist Web sites that it had killed the Marine, who is of Lebanese origin.
"The media have published, quoting the Lebanese foreign ministry, that the Ansar al-Sunna Army has killed the American hostage, from Lebanese origin, who was kidnapped in Iraq," the statement said.
"In order to maintain our credibility in all issues we declare that this statement that was attributed to us has no basis of truth," the statement said. It added that any statement in its name "that any statement that is not issued through our site doesn't represent us.

I also believe the first report that they killed him and are now denying it because they sense the approaching whirlwind. When justice catches up to these murderers, they won't like what Allah has in store for them.

This marine was supposedly a Muslim. Many Islamics are condemning the murder of a fellow Islamic now the terrorists are facing rage fromt thei own as well as the US Marines, Things are about to get hot. If they didnt murder him PRODUCE him.

They kill Muslims every day in bombings, but not in their more targeted killings. They actually released the Turkish group specfically because they were Muslim, according to one of the Turks who was released. (Also, I think, because the Turkish company had given in to the terrorists' demands that it leave Iraq.)
It's possible that they thought he was a Lebanese Christian, or also possible that his father's request that they release him because he was a Muslim and "not a fighter" would have made it look bad if they had killed him, especially if he was deserting anyway.
On the other hand, it's also possible that they have killed him and all of this is just a smokescreen.
