North Carolina has an entire Armored Brigade (30th HSB) in Iraq, so Edwards has a legitimate excuse for going. Security is going to be a nightmare though.

Edwards has not gone to Iraq since the U.S. invasion last year. His visit there would be designed to try to fill the senator's lack of experience in national security policy. It also would provide the campaign with photo opportunities showing Edwards in close contact with U.S. troops in Iraq.Since Edwards has not been to Iraq before, and has, up until now, never expressed any interest in going there, how could a trip at this point in time be viewed as anything but a cheap political stunt? I know there are a lot of people out there who believe just about anything the Democrats tell them, but even they have to see through something as transparent as this.

He's probably going over there so he can set up a law office to pursue Iraqi personal injury cases.
