I far prefer Guiliani, Arnold and the rest. Powerhouse speakers that will galvinize the swing voters. Its a smart political move, but I would prefer watching a replay of the late-great Ronald Reagan's "Rendezvous with Destiny" speech. I may just have to do that after watching the GOP convention!

I never knew that Buchanan displaced President Reagan. What puerile nonsense on Buchanan's part - the Great Man could have certainly helped much more than Buchanan did.

Pataki is the governor of the state that the convention is being held in; it's SOP.

Care to explain why the Buchanan speech made you quit the party. That seems a little extreme, considering it was the speech of a man who had been beaten like a gong in the primaries. It's not like he was representing the main-stream Republican voice. He was representing his 5% of primary voters.

Did I miss something, or were the words "culture war" never mentioned. I looked at the speech and say that there is nothing hate filled about it. I guess the talk about the mobs of people at the LA riots was supposedly taken as racial?

would much prefer that it be our values, not our enemies values, that define the swing voter Yeah, and I would much prefer that my mortgage company marked my account "paid in full" and that the IRS would lose all records that I exist. That ain't gonna happen either.

the last 12 years in this country have utterly vindicated Pat Buchanan.
To the "REAL CONSERVATIVE" Americans Buchanan, and his views have always been considered patriotic, America first, and very eloquent. The liberals will always throw labels at you to vilify you, if you are good.

Actually the biggest factor in Clinton getting elected, by FAR, was Perot. Look at the low pluralities he won in state after state and in the nationwide popular vote. Without the big-eared dummy it would have been a very close election and Bush1 might well have prevailed saving us from years of Xlintonism.

It's not like he was representing the main-stream Republican voice. He was representing his 5% of primary voters. He was on in PRIME TIME.....he put the ugly face on the GOP.

What does that have to do with anything?
Have you forgotten that Lynne and Dick Cheney will be speaking? Are they RINOS?
Have you forgotten that the networks are going to show ONE HOUR a night, if that? And don't pretend that during that hour, WHATEVER is happening, the networks' talking heads aren't going to be talking over it.

That's precisely why Buchananoids need to be kept off the stage. Most Americans realize, even if they can't articulate it, that "culture" is not a legitimate political issue. The ones who do know how to articulate it recognize that government cultural engineering is more characteristic of Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia than of a civilized society.

Perot have not had one single statement or an interview since 9/11? What is wrong with that?

Of course. I forgot about Zell. That's one Dem I'd like to see as Pres. Not that he'd ever make it through the primaries without compromising his principles (which I don't think he'd do).

It was NOT a great speech. I was there and watched the whole convention. I have never seen a more dispirited group of people as there were leaving the hall that night. Every one of us knew that Bush was going to lose at that point, and we knew that Buchanan's speech would get hung around Bush's neck like a stone.
The point is that Buchanan ran against George H.W. Bush. Unlike Ronald Reagan's speech at the 1976 convention, Buchanan's speech was not the speech of a vanquished opponent, cheerfully conceding and promising to fight another day. It was a nasty screed that basically said "I'm still right and all of you who didn't vote for me are un-American idiots." It was the most obnoxious speech I have ever heard.
Pat Buchanan gave us eight years of Bill Clinton. He is a useless POS for that reason alone. I wouldn't pee on him if he was on fire.

"Our state is FAILING because of moderate Republicans being afraid to stand up to radical liberals."I think one of the interesting things in the decade ahead will be the radical contrast between working and failing states. The failing states are going to want FedGov to bail them out. Cali is still in a world of hurt. The 'rats refused to cut programs, so taxes will have to be raised. They may pass you in NY as the highest taxed state. The productive have been leaving by the SUV full for a decade, and replaced by no-income invaders from sunny Mexico.
